Hi guys, I’m new here but I’ve been looking at these forums a lot through my pregnancy.
I’m 22 weeks with my first. At the beginning of last year I was running 5k three times a week, then I fractured a bone in my foot and I stopped for months. I started again shortly after finding out I was pregnant, partly because I’d finally healed, and partly because I wanted to exercise through pregnancy and running is one of the few things that doesn’t bore me to death. I was surprised that my fitness was still ok when I started again, but since then it’s been SO up and down!
I try to go twice a week but I’ve been so tired. I play badminton every Wednesday. This morning I went out and I could hardly run at all, I had to stop so frequently. I just didn’t have it in me. I have a higher than average BMI and I’m due to be tested for gestational diabetes in April. After speaking to a midwife about how common it is last week, I’ve massively cut down on sugar. I’m wondering if low blood sugar could be the reason for the bad run, but I’m struggling to find any answers on google.
I just want to know the reason. Should I eat something with a bit of sugar before I run, like fruit? Will it lead me to eat too much sugar? I’m also not clear yet on whether fruit is bad for diabetes, as I’ve read mixed reports and I’ve been eating more since quitting chocolate.
Any help/ideas/theories/tips would be greatly appreciated!
