Hi all,

Just wondered if anyone was prescribed a low dose of aspirin in pregnancy?! I got told last week one of hormones was low and that I need a low dose, I just dissolve it in water before or during a meal and take it. It will also help my placenta.

Anyone else had this? And was all well? I think I have to take it up till I'm 36 weeks?

Thanks

I've taken low dose aspirin in both my pregnancies. One healthy 2.5 year old and 31 weeks with the second with all well so far.

I was at high risk of Pre eclampsia so took it as a precaution. I did end up with PE with DS1 but fortunately not until after he was born and no lasting effects for either of us. The aspirin is supposed to help with blood flow through the placenta.

@Sunshinegirl82 lovely.. thank you

I don't mind taking it I was just wondering if it's ok to start now as I'm 17 weeks and got prescribed it last week. I hear a lot of women started it way before but this wasn't picked up until I had my results the other weeks

I'm on low dose aspirin because of a previous early miscarriage. I'm 38 weeks and still taking it. I was originally told to take it for the first 12 weeks, then at a later appointment, I think 28 weeks, they told me to start taking it again.

B0bb · 03/03/2019 13:32

@shinyblackdog ahh I see so it doesn't matter when really. Well I've just taken it with my lunch.

I'm sure they said 36 weeks but I could be wrong.

Thank you Smile

I was prescribed it at 8 weeks and now 21 weeks and still taking it. Its because I’m at high risk of pre eclampsia xx

Cosmogirl86 · 03/03/2019 13:35

I've been taking it since my 13 weeks booking appointment as I'm at risk of pre eclampsia. It's perfectly safe for you and baby! Just remember to take it with food and it's grand.

B0bb · 03/03/2019 13:36

@Amelia910 @Cosmogirl86 thanks both.

Yep just taken it with my lunch, I think I was concerned because I'm 17 weeks starting it but like I say a test I had came back with the results the other week so I thought am I late taking it.

Its never too late to correct an issue! It's better to do it now than not at all

B0bb · 03/03/2019 13:41

@Cosmogirl86 very true, thank you. Grin

@HughLauriesStubble yeah I'm sure they said up until I'm 36 weeks? But I will double check as time goes on.

Thank you

I started taking it yesterday at 16weeks. I think my mw did tell me to take it at my 9wk booking appointment and it somehow slipped my mind. Consultant app on Friday and she gave me a prescription for it so I had better take it (alongside my bp tablets also prescribed 🙈)
I wasn’t told when to stop taking it. But I have to have my bp checked fortnightly and I’m seeing a consultant again at 28weeks so plenty of opportunity to ask!

B0bb · 03/03/2019 14:55

@Lexyness bless ya. Well at least u are taking it now. I was waiting for my prescription... my MW said to me Friday just start taking it but I didn't know how much or anything so I grabbed my prescription today.

I will ask as time goes on, see the consultant at an 18 weeks scan for the heart so I will see what she says

Helsvamp · 03/03/2019 15:34

I was told to take it after 12 week scan until I give birth. As not safe to take before then

Helsvamp · 03/03/2019 15:36

Don't need a prescription as cheap to buy

B0bb · 03/03/2019 16:10

@Helsvamp yeah MW said that but then the specialist said she was waiting for the doctors approval and I never heard anything until I chased it up.. mines for my placenta and because a hormone is low

I take 75mg aspirin daily due to history of miscarriages. I took it with my 6 month old daughter and im taking it again with this pregnancy too.

B0bb · 04/03/2019 19:04

@Impulse1 ahh I see. Thank you Smile

I’m on it till 28 weeks as mine is an IVF pregnancy. I take it first thing in the morning with the rest of my meds - folic acid, vit D, prednisolone and, at the moment, estrodiol (which I finish the day after tomorrow - I’ll be 10 weeks then!)

Bernifal · 06/03/2019 14:03

I was prescribed due to high BMI, had to take from week 12 til the day I go into labour.
