8 weeks pregnant and brown spotting???

Hi everyone, 8 weeks along with a little ivf baby.. had our 8 week scan, strong heart beat - everything great.

5 days later I have a few spots of brown looking blood? I still have white discharge, which my midwife says is perfectly fine.. I have no pain, slight twinges mostly in my left side but I've been getting these since we got pregnant.

Has anyone else had this? Naturally I'm terrified but trying not to worry. Hubby is on the night shift and I don't want to make him worried.

I feel absolutely fine, had nothing when I wiped.

Any help greatly appreciated x

Had full bleeds in both pregnancies.

DS1 - Brown spotting and bled for a week
This pregnancy - brown spotting, bled up to 18 weeks.

DS1 is now 2, and I'm 34 weeks with my second.

Midwives told me, the reason they don't treat spotting as a concern is because it's sooooooooo common. More so brown, as it means it's your body just getting rid of old blood.

Congratulations too by the way x

I had brown bleeding at 6 weeks and again at 10 weeks. Both times it lasted a few days. This was over 20 years ago and was considered then not to be of concern unless the bleeding was red. In fact the gp I saw for my regular visits said it could happen every time my period would have come on due to my hormones. I went to full term and the baby was fine.

I was told that the twinges you describe could be due to the ligaments stretching in early pregnancy.

Try not to worry - just rest on the bed and perhaps read or watch something on the television to try and relax a bit. The most likely outcome is that everything will be fine.

Congratulations on your pregnancy x

Brown is old blood so maybe old implantation bleed..
Probably been tucked away since before your scan..
I had a very small amount and 24 weeks now..

Congratulations..

I'm 6-7 weeks and have brown discharge spotting aswell
It's my first and I've been worrying so much - I have a call with midwife tomorrow so will mention it. But when I've red up on it most people say it's old blood and not a cause for concern. Me and my partner has sex yesterday morning which apparently could cause it too? Not sure if same for you
Congratulations though xx

I’ve just posted a post about spotting. I’m 9 weeks and 3 days with my first baby. I had a private reassurance scan on Friday as I had a miscarriage last year at 6 weeks so instantly worry! At my scan they said everything was fine and babies heartbeat was great! Only noticed the brown discharge last night (Saturday) and today ive barely had any but when I’ve wiped twice there was a bit. I’m just wanting reassurance as I rang 111 last night panicking like mad and the doctor who rang me back didn’t seem interested or helpful in the slightest. Not had any red blood or abdominal pains just a little bit of brown spotting .. is this normal? Not sure if I need to ring the EPU? Or am I worrying too much

Heffalelephant · 03/03/2019 20:07

Yep, I had it about that time (and now that baby is a toddler)! It seems quite common.

Afraid to say that doctors and EPU won't do anything at all. Unless it's frank, fresh red blood.. and even then they will be reluctant.

The reasoning being, is there's nothing they can do to intervene, but more so than that, because it is so common and more often than not turns out okay.

Please be assured that it is something that happens to a lot of people.. it has happened in both my pregnancies. One is laying in bed asleep in the next room, the other is due next month.

Private reassurance scans are probably your best option for relieving the stress. I completely understand how worrying it is, I feared the worst both times Thanks

Hi everyone, my maternity unit said to monitor it, avoid sex and if I bleed enough to fill a sanitary towel then I should go in to the emergency room, luckily I've had no other symptoms. I think I just panicked.. this is my first pregnancy and after the stress of ivf I think any slight symptom pushes me over the edge

Thank you all for the reassurance I really needed it
