Nursing Shawls

Hi

Wondering what the advice is from people who have 'been there done that'. Baby is due in May and I'm planning to breastfeed. I've been looking at nursing shawls (seen a lovely one from Seraphine) that I could throw over a vest top. Are they a waste of money or a lifesaver?

Thanks!

I would just use a large muslin... perhaps see how you go with that and then if you want additional coverage get a shawl after

I personally never have bothered to cover up for breastfeeding. Just never something that concerns me.
If you know however that you would like to keep covered and that's what would make you most happiest and comfortable, then looking into the options is sensible and you should go with the option that would make you feel best. That said any form of pretty scarf, muslin, or specific nursing shawl could be used , its up to you

I just wear a vest top and a loose t-shirt or shirt over the top so I can use that to cover up. I always found shawls and muslins a faff and couldn't see my baby so I worried my boob would suffocate her 😣

Thanks everyone!

It's not so much for covering up, more for a top layer that's loose fitting and easy to use. I quite like the poncho type look of them too.

I had one that I found invaluable at the start of my breastfeeding journey when feeding in public. Getting baby to latch wasn’t always straight forward and would often take several attempts to get DD on correctly and I wasn’t comfortable sitting with my boob on display for the time taken to do this. Once we got the hang of it and I felt more at ease I ditched the shawl.
