I had two sweeps with DD. The first one was failed because I wasn't ready for it (think my cervix was too closed?)

The second one was basically like being fingered by my MW (I had mine at home so was lying on my bed... weird!)
She literally swept a circle around the inside of my cervix (I think but I stand corrected if I'm talking shite. It was over 4 years ago).

This didn't work and I was booked in for an induction - luckily DD came 13 days late, 12 hrs before scheduled induction.
Good luck

First with DC1 worked, had him that night. Second didn’t so was induced. Yes sweeping a circle, I just let them get on with it!
Good luck!

Second one worked, though the midwife doing it said not to expect DD until the next week (I was 40+2) and she was born 20 hours later.
The weirdest thing for me was that both midwifes commented they could feel DD’s hair!

I had a sweep and I lost my plug, I was only 37 weeks tho so it's likely it could have grown back..
I was then induced at 38+2

Another quick question! Do they use their fingers or there whole hand lol.

Fingers lol..

I had a sweep when I was 39+4 that I was convinced would be unsuccessful mostly because my midwife had such short fingers (I know!). She said at the time that baby was very low and she was able to touch his head. The next afternoon I went up to the hospital as I had noticed reduced movements and while I was there being monitored, I went into labour. There was also miconium in my waters. I think that the sweep worked in that it pissed him off enough to kick start labour! So it's not a pleasant experience but I feel it is worth it if the timing is right.

I has one at 41 weeks and DD didn’t make an appearance till 4 days later. I suspect she would have come then anyway and I don’t think the sweep had anything to do with it. I found it super painful too so I won’t be having one this time round!

Im having my sweep next week on friday the 8th March if baby doesn't arrive by then. Make sure you trim down there and have clean knickers on. I might even shave my legs.. Its embaressing having them see your bits and even more frightening someone putting a finger up your la la. Lol but honestly you should be in safe hands.

Dreamzcancometrue · 27/02/2019 18:34

No pun intended!

Why are you having a sweep so early?
