I was supposed to have my period last week Monday (11th February), and indeed on the morning of 11th I had some light bleeding (I always do on the first day). However my period (which normally is very light and lasts 2 max 3 days anyway) did not continue at all. I wasn’t suspicious first but later in the week, this, coupled with some other very mild symptoms (on and off breast tenderness and fatigue) got me thinking and I took a home pregnancy test. It was extremely faint the first time, 2 days later a little darker but still faint. I also took a clearblue digital test which suggested I was 1-2 weeks pregnant. Which takes us to this week when I had my internal scan appointment for a totally different reason.

The technician said that she cannot see a sac in the uterus nor anything in the tubes (yet) but that my endometrium lining was 19mm which suggested pregnancy. On paper I was 5w 4days pregnant yesterday. She said it is too early to see a sac anyway and I indeed did suspect I ovulated later this month.

But, being the worrier that I am I googled and the internet suggested that the absence of a sac may sometimes mean an impending miscarriage. So I came home last night and took another digital pregnancy test which said “not pregnant” this time. Hoping it may have something to do with my diluted urine levels, I took a nondigital pregnancy test (clearblue rapid detection) this morning which had a very faint positive (even fainter than my last one last week).

I am very confused and sad, and don’t know what is going on with my body but highly suspect I am about to miscarry. I prey to God and hope at least it’s not ectopic. I couldn’t get an appointment with my GP sooner than next week Sunday, so I booked an appointment with a private Obstetrician for Thursday hoping that the second scan may reveal more and I may get some blood tests done.

Anyone experienced this and continued to have healthy babies? I’ve been having on and off mild cramps too and the fatigue and breast tenderness are gone which adds to the paranoia. Had a terrible nightmare last night literally saw the fetus falling out of my body, any help and positivity would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks for your support.

Hi @MummyDiaries, I don’t have a similar experience to share so I can’t really help but didn’t want to read and not comment. I hope it turns out ok xx

It’s too early to say, stressing out won’t help, was it a planned pregnancy?

Just wanted to offer support from me too.

It sometimes seems worse when we know more with all the technical advances we have now.

I mean, its not abnormal to experience cramping early on with pregnancy because of implantation and so on, or slight bleeding too.

I would try hard to relax as much as is possible to get through the next few days and week.

You will definitely know if you are miscarrying, and you do have sufficient endometrium. There's never any guarantee with pregnancy of course, all part and parcel of pregnancy.

Do hope you can find some peace and distraction to get you through this early bit. Take care

With my first I booked a private scan at 6 weeks and there was a sac but no obvious baby or heartbeat. I was told I was either very early or id miscarry. I started bleeding later that day and thought I was miscarryinf but 3 days later he was there. He's now 3 years old.

My second pregnancy I had a scan at 5 weeks due to discharge being pink and it was a pregnancy if unknown location like yours. They took HCG and it doubled, then they found the baby so I was told it was okay however I did go on to miscarry.

I had a pregnancy where the lines kept getting lighter and that was a miscarriage too.

I then had one where we had a perfect heartbeat and measurements at 6 weeks that I also miscarried.

My latest one was twin pregnancy and at 6 weeks one twin had a heartbeat and one twin was much smaller and didn't have one. I was told to expect to lose that twin. I had a really heavy bleed and assumed the worst but she was fine and it was a haematoma. I did give birth at 26 weeks but both babies survived.

Bit long, I'm writing this to explain it's impossible to say as I've had several similar scenarios and some have been successful others have not. Good luck

I’m sorry this must be so stressful for you.

I have to be honest and say that with my first miscarriage my story was almost identical to yours. FRER lines were quite strong but standard strength tests had faint lines for a whole week. CB digital said 1-2 but a week later went to non-pregnant and I miscarried the next day. It was absolutely devastating and I have never used a CB digital again for that reason but please remember everyone is different and I pray this isn’t the same for you - 5 weeks is very early to see anything on a scan which is why most hospitals won’t scan until 7weeks or so.
Best of luck x

Hi all, thank you for all your messages, greatly appreciated. Unfortunately, I started miscarrying last night and am devastated but at least thanking God that it is not ectopic as my chances were high since my last one was ectopic. :( all the best to you all with your journeys.

IF i ever get pregnant again (and that is a big if as i have low ovarian reserve) I know I will not have peace until I actually hold that baby in my arms healthy, safe and sound. And it is gettin harder and harder to have faith that I will actually have a happy ending :(

Oh bless you. So sorry to hear your loss. I always think, its happened, so it can happen again. I wish you so much luck for that baby in your arms.

Take good care of you and enjoy everything else until that happens.
