Confused - what pram to buy?

BellaNutella88 · 22/02/2019 08:12

Hi all

I’m coming up for my 20 week scan and then we plan to buy the pram etc. I had picked the Uppababy Cruz and Silver Cross Pioneer. We went to test these and the SCP didn’t fit in my husbands car boot- Mini Countryman (def won’t fit my KA). The Cruz fit bit with one wheel popped off to lay flat - would angling help fit this in ?

So what I’m asking is - will it be a huge pain popping a wheel off each time I use the car ? Otherwise I’ve started considering the Mammas and Pappas Ocarro or the Oyster 3.

Can anyone give any advice on the best pram and what to go for please ?

Thanks !

I have the silver cross pioneer and love it but it’s massive and takes up our whole boot. With hindsight I would get a smaller one that’s really easy to collapse and put in the boot with extra space if possible. We used to have to put the carrycot in the front seat and the frame in the boot!

I also have an oyster atom small fold up buggy which is amazing now DS is bigger, much easier to put up and down and folds up tiny. I think oyster do quite small prams generally so maybe something like that?

sweatybettee · 22/02/2019 08:32

Yes it will be a pain when the wheels are caked in mud and you are dealing with a tired baby! There are so many to choose from, so pick one that isn't going to send you up every time you use it!

*wind you up

What about something more compact like a Bugaboo Bee or a YoYo Zen?

Purplepricklesalloverhisback · 22/02/2019 09:17

It’s not just the pram, think about getting shopping, changing bag etc in there as well.

I would look for something smaller that fits better.

Espoleta · 22/02/2019 09:20

Definitely get something smaller. I love my yoyo.
Many friends are very happy with the bee5.
Popping a wheel off every time you need to get your baby in the car, plus everything else will be too much.

PennyMordauntsLadyBrain · 22/02/2019 09:34

I was an idiot when picking out our first pram and didn't check the dimensions for either of our boots. Blush

We got a SC Wayfarer and it just about fit flat in my Polo, but no room for anything else. Not the end of the world as I just stuck change bags etc on the back seat.

We've had to replace it with a double and I was way more cautious this time- I ruled out anything where I'd have to remove wheels etc because it's just one more annoying step to add to the rigmarole of getting a baby in and out of the car and into a pram. We've ended up with a Phil&Teds Dot which is actually more compact than the Wayfarer despite being a double.

BellaNutella88 · 22/02/2019 11:35

Thanks everyone for your help !! I think I’m realising we need to pick again. I think the Ocarro and oyster are meant to be smaller so I’ll look at them and also will look at the bee and the yoyo. I don’t think we will have much space whatever one we get but we will change car eventually !

We did consider changing cars now but I don’t know if I can deal with the hassle of selling right now.

The mud on the wheels in winter is making me think twice ! I’m always in a rush at the best of times - although I suspect I won’t be with a child in tow haha.

Really appreciate your replies !

I have the SC pioneer and it is a bit of a beast size wise. I have to remove a wheel to fit it in my boot and it doesn’t really leave much space for much else.

CouldntThink · 22/02/2019 17:02

I had the Bee and loved it, still love it. It’s a great pushchair for when they get bigger too.

I couldn’t be doing with the faff of having to remove bits of the pram just to get it in the boot. The Bee just folds in one it’s so easy. Definitely look at the Yoyo. Mamas and papas do some that fold down small too.

JoshMumsnet · 22/02/2019 17:08

Hello!

Our reviews team have you covered - they recently tested tons of buggies (77 days of testing with over 154 hours of road time!) and have picked the best buggy on the market.

The Cosatto Woosh was this year's winner.

Hope it helps.

Teddyreddy · 22/02/2019 17:18

I think it really depends how faffy folding the pushchair up is otherwise.

I used to have to take one of the wheels off to get my Babyjogger Versa into my Corsa. It didn't particularly bother me - the wheel was quick release with the lever to release them on the axle not the wheel so I didn't get dirty hands, and the pushchair was otherwise very quick to fold. I liked that it then lay flat in the boot as I could then fit shopping on top.

Jackshouse · 22/02/2019 17:20

The vista folds up shorter than the Cruz. We bought the Cruz but we liked the look of mama and papa urbo - they were very similar.

BellaNutella88 · 22/02/2019 18:04

Thanks all ! The vista looked really big? Plus it’s a bit expensive for us. I did like it but I don’t think we need the option for making it into a double.

The wheel on the Cruz pops off with a button so it didn’t look like it would be a big deal but I think the mud and stuff in winter would be annoying !

I’ll try out all the ones you’ve suggested next week and come to a decision. Appreciate all your replies :-)

We’ve bought the M&P Ocarro. We had a good play with it in the shop, tested it outside on kerbs etc and really liked it

AlocAcoc · 22/02/2019 21:47

What about the Uppababy Minu?

goldenslumbers1 · 23/02/2019 11:26

If you’re looking at Mamas and Papas, I really recommend the Flip XT, which is similar but more compact than the Ocarro.

I can fold it in one piece and stand it upright in my tiny VW up boot, with room to spare for the raincover and other bits and bobs. My friends have the Ocarro and have the remove the pushchair seat from the chassis which would annoy me! I used to wedge the carrycot in the passenger seat footwell.

Agree with everyone who says you won’t want to be messing with wheels and angling when you’ve got a baby - you’ll nearly always be running late for something so the extra hassle just isn’t worth it.

Have fun shopping 😊

Jackshouse · 23/02/2019 19:00

Don’t be afraid to consider second hand. There are some amazing bargains to be had.

bellajay · 23/02/2019 19:11

I also have the flip xt and really like it. Haven’t tried anything else though.

BellaNutella88 · 23/02/2019 19:13

Great thank you. I’ll have a look at the flip xt as well ! We are going pram shopping on Friday :-).

I would consider second hand, I just need to pick the right pram first. And we are going to the baby show on Saturday so may get a bargain there.

Those of you with the flip xt, how do you find it for walks in the park?

bellajay · 24/02/2019 09:49

@Jadefeather7 absolutely fine, it’s sturdy and pretty easy to manoeuvre. I wouldn’t take it massively off-road or anything but we do walks in the park at least a couple of times a week with no problems, even if the path is a bit bumpy.

Bouncer4me · 24/02/2019 16:10

We got the icandy orange and it’s frame folds down tiny so might be worth looking at 😀

Junebug55 · 24/02/2019 21:55

We're going for the oyster 3, ticks all the boxes for us. Easy to fold, compact to store, all terrain wheels and looks good too! But the flip xt2 was a very close second. Smile

Sessy19 · 30/05/2019 16:23

I keep looking for more comprehensive advice on prams and travel systems but couldn’t find anything. I’m after something pretty rugged and multi-terrain capable. I have a larger car so space wouldn’t be as much of an issue, but it should also be pretty lightweight and easy to use (single button or something ideally 😬). And I just haven’t got a clue where to start!!! I really don’t want to spend £1000, but I have very willing parents with First-time Grandparents Cheque books at the ready (against my better judgement, but they’re insistent!! 🙄
