Baby not engaged at 38 weeks

Hi all.

I'm currently 37+5 with my first baby. I had my '36 week' midwife appointment today (despite being almost 38 weeks... Grin) and whilst baby is head down, she still isn't engaged.

Does this mean she'll be late? Or does it not make any difference?

Thanks! Smile

Neither of mine “engaged”
One was 3 days early
One was 5 days late
Baby will be born when it’s ready ❤️

Mine was engaged from maybe 37 weeks. I was having contractions from 39 weeks, regularly, up to every 2-3 mins at times.
She was induced at 40+6. All it means is whether or not you have to walk around with a bowling ball between your legs for the last few days or weeks or not. As PP said, baby will come when baby is ready.

I don't think any of mine engaged until my contractions started! They were all born basically 'on time', between 40+2 and 40+5.

Good luck!

My first didn't engage until contractions were well underway, second did the day before birth

Mine wasn't engaged at my final check up (39+4) but he came the next day anyway Grin

DC1 was induced at 35 weeks so doubt he was engaged. DC2 wasn't engaged at a check up on the Friday but arrived 2 days later at 36+6, the day before I was due to go in to start another induction!

I was engaged with DD from 37 weeks, she was 2 weeks late.

Some babies just don't engage until just before labour.
