Am I being OTT

Ok, so! Baby is coming next week 🎉 she will only be a week early but I've started a wee box to sit in the hall for when visitors come in to use the hand gel so when they come in to hold baby they are less risk of germs. I've also put in a wee moisturiser and mints for smokers because I HATE the thought of someone's smokey breath breathing on my new wee baby!... Am I being ridiculous and OTT?

Exciting times- congrats!
I would say you’re not being ott with sanitiser but I think washing with soap and water is actually more effective for getting rid of germs. I think maybe the mints might be a bit much tho , personally I can’t imsgine asking someone that smokes to eat a mint because of their breath!

It’s funny isn’t it. I actually didn’t really think of these things at all before having my baby, but then once he was here, I really started to notice and get irritated by the thought of people breathing over him and touching him with their dirty mitts.
I don’t think your being OTT at all but I will also add that be aware of strong perfumes too. We’ve had some people holding our boy that are covered in strong perfume and he hates it. For one, he comes back to me stinking of it, and 2, it irritates his skin. I will from now on either put a blanket between him and their clothes or tell them not to wear it full stop if they know they are coming for cuddles.
Also, it’s not the breath of smokers that you need to worry about. Did you know that the smoke stays on their clothes for hours after a cigarette and the baby can breath in the second hand smoke from their clothes. A huge SIDS risk apparently. X

Haha i used to smoke and have ocd i stopped during pregnancy but i started back up on like 4 a day .... everytime i had one i showered and changed my clothes before we picked ds up i made my dp do the same i stopped my children going to peoples houses that smoke inside. We soon stopped again as i became over paranoid about my children breathing it in.

Even now my dp dad smokes in his house i will not allow my children inside they play in the garden for atleast a hour after his last even then i try avoid them coming in altogether i cringe and get home for a shower because my clothes stink of it !.

I think yes hand sanitizer is a good idea but try to encourage hand washing and sanitizer and politley ask people to have a cig a good 40 mins before picking up your baby xx

When my little one arrives I’m going to have a rule where everyone must wash their hands and no one is allowed to kiss the baby. My DH thinks I’m being melodramatic but you see all these horror stories where babies contract herpes from kisses etc so I’m not taking any chances x

VioletGInPlease · 22/02/2019 17:49

Don't allow anybody to kiss your baby if anything back of the head only ! X

Not at all! I think that’s a good idea

I would ask smokers to have a cigarette at least 20 mins before and change their clothes. This is NHS advice.
