Hi I am 17 weeks pregnant and had my dual marker at 12 weeks and first scan the scan was fine but the dual marker came with a risk 1.67 so was advised to get NIPT done so I did and that came back as low risk. Now I had my level 2 scan and feral

Echo done and there are two soft markers on my scan and have been advised by the doc to go for amniocentesis. The two soft markets are

Mild bowel enchogentics

And both kidneys are mildly dilated. So scare and so confused what to do

Are you in the uk?? It sounds like a vastly different experience to prenatal care than I recognise.

RIYA28 · 22/02/2019 02:21

I don't know the procedures you have referenced.

I would assume these are indicators for Down's? Are the indicators you have only because you've been scanned, as here risk can obviously be higher simply because of age?

RIYA28 · 22/02/2019 03:28

i am 36 years old and the yes it was the indictor on the scan as i have already had niot at 15 weeks which came back as low risk

What does that, and the other results tell you?

RIYA28 · 22/02/2019 03:58

You will need to explain what you are worrying about?

Why all the tests? What are they for specifically? I'm afraid I don't have enough time to dedicate to working them out, sorry.

If you lay it out here I'll happily offer to help.

Hey basically my doc said coz u have two soft markers that I dictate downs we should go for amneo and I am scared coz of the miscarriage. But now having another scan I only have one and wana know does this soft marker mean downs

Sorry I can't help as I don't understand the language you're using. Hopefully someone else will be along that does.

Good luck OP, hope all goes well (I know there's a m/c risk, but I never did, and I know another that had 3, all because of blood indicated higher risk purely based on them.being late 30's then early 40's, again all fine, but that's just anecdotal, but its all I've got I'm afraid)

@RIYA28 Sorry you are having to go through this stress it’s awful. I was told at my 20 week scan that the baby had echogenic bowel (bright bowel) but no other markers.
I had regular scans to check growth etc and I am currently snuggling my 4 day old daughter who is perfect so all the worry was for nothing which apparently most cases are.
Do you have access to any other testing where you are harmony etc so you wouldn’t need to have an amniocentesis?

confused8 · 23/02/2019 10:23

If you were in the UK, I believe you would get a TORCH screen due to the ecogenic bowel. This tests for a range of different infections/conditions. It is just a blood test from yourself. NIPT is pretty accurate. Very often a mild ecogenic bowel can be nothing sinister at all
