37 weeks exhausted & tearful

I just wanted to check if how I am feeling is normal!
I am:

  • 42 years old
  • 37 weeks pregnant with first successful pregnancy after trying for over 12 years
  • Post grad student (with deadline to hit before baby arrives!)
  • DH is working abroad (planned before we knew about baby but coming home before baby is due)

And I am completely shattered, no motivation for anything, if I could I would sit on the sofa watching trashy TV all day (something I would normally never do).

Is anyone else in / been in this position?

I think everyone feels differently. Two years ago I was around 38 weeks with my DD, I started mat leave thinking I'd put my feet up, watch rubbish TV and maybe potter around a little at home. In reality I had loads of energy and not being out an about I found really frustrating ( I thought she would arrive shortly after leaving work but I ended up still plodding around at 42 weeks!). This time round I'm almost 28 weeks now and could happily spend the next 3 months in a bath full of doritos and just the iPad for company!
I'd say do what ever feels right for you as it will all change so much in a few weeks time. Don't let how other people felt or didn't feel influence how you feel.
(Not sure how much that helps)

Thank you for your response - I feel like I am wading through treacle at the moment!

I'm 37 and 33 weeks with my first; I've had zero motivation this entire pregnancy except for maybe a day at a time here and there. I get exhausted fast. Thankfully (or not...) I work from home for myself so can pace myself but you're not alone in the treacle feeling. I'm aiming for "do what I can, when I can" and trying not to physically overdo anything as a big day can wipe me out for days.

I felt like this both times right at the end. I think you do feel a bit weird, it’s normal. Rest as much as you can. Eat little and often. Watch comedy films under a blanket!

Thank you for your responses. I would love to sit down and do nothing but deadlines loom 🙄
