Baby movements

I'm 14 weeks pregnant with my second and was feeling some movement from about 11 weeks. I knew they were baby because they happened when I was in certain positions and obviously I've felt them before! For about a week now I haven't felt anything. I know it's not normal to feel consistent movements until about 20 weeks but is this a cause for concern?

I would just phone your triage unit for piece of mind. They may tell you to go in to be monitored but either way I would think they can put your mind at ease.

At 14 weeks the baby is far too small for you to feel regular movement. He/she could well
be having a big dance in there and you won't feel a thing!

See I thought to ring triage but my common sense is telling me that movements won't be consistent and that I shouldn't be worried but I obviously am hence the post! Haha. It's odd I just have a bad feeling

Unfortunately I don’t think there is anything that triage can do. It’s unlikely a monitor would pick up babies heart beat, they might tell you to go in and see if a Doppler would pick it up but it’s unlikely as most trusts don’t offer any monitoring until 24 weeks.

I would really try not to panic, baby is still so small that it’s likely you won’t feel regular movements for a few weeks yet.

No I don't think you need to call or worry at this stage. They are so tiny at this point... I think this is why they advise monitoring movements at a later stage (24/26 weeks onwards maybe?!).

If it makes you feel better, I'm pregnant with my second too and occasionally felt movement from about 14 weeks. There was no pattern, it was just every so often. As time went on they became more apparent and more regular.

For now, try not to worry and enjoy your pregnancy :)

Are you sure it wasn't just wind? I read on the NHS website (when I was worried about lack of movement) you can feel on second or subsequent pregnancy from 16 weeks and at 11 weeks baby is tiny. I'm probably extra sceptical as on number 4 and have never felt anything until at least 18 weeks and I get huge bumps but I know everyone is different. I don't actually recall what first kicks feel like either despite having 3 babies before this one. I know the midwife told me they'd stopped listening to heart rate at 16 week appointment as its so unreliable and hard to hear and should they not find it they won't give you a scan at that stage still so it'd be worrying for you. I am sure it's after 24 weeks they start listening for you. Try not to worry, baby is so tiny right now. X

I felt first movements with DD around 12 weeks, she was my 3rd so I knew that's what they were. After 13 weeks I never felt anything again until 16 weeks.

I had a very complicated pregnancy but I think it was focussing on her movements which caused the most anxiety so I totally understand how you feel.

It's definitely worth speaking to your midwife tho, or ringing triage, as pp have suggested so you get peace of mind.

My babies HB was picked up on a Doppler at 13+6 weeks. I’m also overweight but she didn’t have much of an issue picking it up.

@currantbeings they've always found my babies hb early on too but the midwife explained this time at my 16 week apt that they have stopped doing it until 24 weeks because often they were struggling to find them and they can't offer a reassurance scan for this. I think it depends on where baby is lying too, I don't know that it's weight related but I'm no expert. I'm 21 weeks and only just feeling definite movement with my 4th and I know all is fine as I had scan this week but I have been concerned. I have had moments as early as 12 weeks where I thought maybe but then it's a lot like wind at first I find and so Im guessing it was as they are tiny at that stage and my placenta is anterior and cushioning the kicks I found out this week so I definitely won't have felt baby that early. I guess this is the reason they don't monitor kicks until passed 24 weeks, which is kind of reassuring but totally get anxieties over this.x
