Wondering if someone can tell me of this is normal procedure, anxious ftm so bear with me!
I was anemic for years before I got pregnant and on iron tablets that crept up until I was on 630mg a day, there was no obvious cause for my anemia and the doctor had done every test under the sun as I had just got worse and worse then couldn't pick it back up, I struggled very badly.
So you can imagine my surprise when I got pregnant and my booking appointment blood levels were all normal! I've felt better than I have in years.
Skipping ahead last Thursday I had a scan to monitor growth and they took my 28 week bloods at the hospital, I spoke with the doctor and because she knew my history she said if my iron comes back low we will look into iron transfusion instead of tablets as she was concerned I wouldn't be able to pick it back up again in time for the birth.
This morning I have a call from the doctors clinic telling me to come pick up a prescription today..
I'm only assuming it's iron but no explanation just a very rushed call with no information (I know doctors receptionists are very busy I so don't blame them)
But surely I should have been told what it's for or have the chance to talk about this with a doctor, especially if iron tablets just don't work for me? And if it's something different they've prescribed I will be confused and have no idea what I'm taking?
