Ectopic / Irregular Heartbeat

Just looking for any experiences of this please?
I'm just over 32 weeks, had a consultant appointment on Friday, who listened in and suspected baby had an ectopic heartbeat. She arranged for me to go the hospital the next day for ECG; they monitored baby and saw gaps in the heartbeat so referred me for an urgent scan... to be done within 4 days. Based on what they find there, I'll be seen by a fetal medicine specialist.

They gave me some info on it, which all seems a bit vague. I understand it can be really common and generally resolves itself.

So my query is, if it isn't something that could resolve itself, what could it be?

I'm not someone who panics easily, but I like to have as much information as possible and just can't seem to find much about this.

I am not sure about baby's ectopic heart beats.
I do know that in adults it is mostly benign in the absence of structural abnormalities. It depends on the frequency and the origin of the ectopic beats. Most people get them.
If they are sustained then it is more likely to warrant further investigation. When there is an ectopic beat a small compensatory pause follows to "reset" the sinus node (the natural pacemaker cells). I think low foetal heart rate would be worrying, but really sorry not sure about ectopic in foetuses. Will ask around when I get to work next week (work in adult cardiology) How was the anomaly scan? Did they identify all cardiac structures and no defects?

Thank you for the information @Bella245. The 20 week scan they couldn't get to the heart but they said it was positioning, I went back after a couple of days and they said it was fine.
The hospital has requested an urgent scan (not that I've heard anything), to check it all again.
They're saying that my first son had this during labour, but I was never made aware of this, now I'm worrying I should get his heart checked, because they are saying if this baby still has it up to birth then they will monitor heart afterwards.
First sons heart was never monitored

It's good there are no structural defects. Apart from structural abnormalities there can be arrhythmia due to channelopathies. This will only be investigated if there is a serious concern, inherited cardiac diseases/ sudden cardiac death in the family etc. These arrhythmias tend to present with a sudden onset and are sustained. It doesn't sound like this in your case. I am not aware of in utero test for this, but know little about foetal cardiac investigations. Your first son would have been monitored annually (usually) if they suspected heart problems. If there were some ectopic beats and no other problems I doubt they would have been worried. Let me know what the specialist says as I would be interested too.
