Negative pregnancy test

Hi all,

Just wondering as I’m driving myself crazy... has anyone been pregnant but had negative tests or did your period arrive eventually?

I was due my period last Monday so a week late today... I had been on the pill and implant for 6 years so no periods... before that was always around a 28 day cycle give or take a day or so.

When I stopped contraception my periods did take over two months to return and now I’ve had 3 periods since all being 28 days exactly... now nothing.

Taken a pregnancy test each morning since my period was due and negative. I had lots of cramping the day my period was due so was sure it was coming but nothing. I had nausea and dizziness about 2 days after.... now I feel fine just the occasional cramp here and there.

I’m driving myself insane... I went to the doctors but they didn’t do my blood or a pregnancy test but didn’t really suggest what it could be just asked am I sure I’m not pregnant and I said well all the tests have been negative and they said just to wait and see basically.

I have never been this late in my life so it seems off to me so wanted to know others experiences... were you late, negative tests and still pregnant or is it likely my period will come eventually?

I know everyone is different and nobody knows really... but everyone I have spoken to about have just said they have never been this late unless they were pregnant and had positive test.

Hi @GusleBusle, I had negative tests and did turn out to be pregnant, eventually!

I had a coil removed last July, then was diagnosed with an underactive thyroid in August and started meds for that. First period was about 6 weeks after the coil was removed and had another 24 days later so a short cycle. GP confirmed thyroid was normal mid-Oct so we stopped using condoms and I planned to start tracking ovulation once my next period arrived but it never did!

I tested negative at 4, 11 and 12 days late (based on my assumption that my period was due 28 days after the last one). Was convinced I wasn’t pregnant so didn’t test again until 19 days late and it was positive!

Fast forward to early scan when I thought I was 9+6 and I was actually only 7+3, so when I had thought that my period was 19 days late, it was actually only about 3 days late, so I had ovulated late and had a long cycle. 17+2 now and all going well so far.

So you could be the same as me, long cycle so period wasn’t due when you thought so you tested negative. Of course you also may not be pregnant. All you can do is wait a few days and test again. Fingers crossed for you! x

After I stopped all contraception I had a few 28 day cycles, then they were varied and I have had anywhere upto 80 days.
It will take more than three cycles to really track your cycle - my suspicion is your body getting used to no hormones from contracpetion.
Took me two years, currently 12 weeks pregnant thanks to fertility drugs.

Thanks for the replies... @GabbyGal I think Im just hoping I’m going to have a similar outcome but who knows 🤷🏼‍♀️ Just driving myself crazy at the mo.

@ChrisPrattsFace I did wonder that too but the doctor didn’t seem to think that was the case either as they had returned and were regular. He didn’t really have a clue if I’m being honest though and I wasn’t actually there for that reason though and I had just mentioned at the appointment ... congrats on your pregnancy! 😊

I know I’m going to have to just wait and see what happens but TTC is making me feel like I’m constantly waiting... for periods or positives... I may need to get used to it though.

It’s possibly some of the worst anxiety I’ve had, the expectation every cycle followed by disappointment - even when you ‘follow the rules’ and do everything you think you should.
I would (and did) test every 5-7 days, and keep a good log/track of my cycles going forward.
Good luck!

I can only imagine how stressful it is. I know that I was extremely lucky and that my TTC experience was the exception rather than the rule. Really hope it works out for you and you get that BFP soon xx

My cycle was all over the place when I came off the pill, 3 days to 42 days then nothing for 4.5 months! Stress can also effect it.
