Weaning off progesterone

Hello

I wonder if anyone can help and give me a little reassurance.

I’m currently 12+6, and due to this being an IVF pregnancy have been on daily prontogest injections and 2xcyclogests. The time has now come for me to start weaning off the progesterone, which terrifies me, but I wondered how everyone else weaned off theirs? I was thinking to start with taking the prontogest shots every other day (we only have about 5 left anyway), whilst continuing the 2 daily cyclogest, then reducing the cyclogest to 1 x daily for a few days, then half daily until we run out? Does this sound ok? Xx

By this point, the placenta should have taken over, so it's the right thing to do to wean off. Your plan seems sound to me, but my clinic told me how to wean off my progesterone course.

My post IVF progesterone is 2x Crinone 8% vaginal gel daily plus 500mg gestogen (Proluton depot) injection every 3rd day until 12 weeks. I’ve simply been told to stop them at 12 weeks with no advice to wean the dose down.

I stopped taking the pessaries at 12 weeks. The IVF nurse said I could stop after the 8 week scan when a HB was confirmed but I was too worried/nervous to stop them!

I was on 2 cyclogest a day after my BFP when told I could come off them (after viability scan) I went down to 1 a day and then 1 every other day until they'd run out.

Thanks all for your help. Have started to wean off them, so have carried on the cyclogest but missed the prontogest dose on Sun night so to take it every 48hrs, woken up in the early hours by a big gush of brown blood. Sad Will book in for a scan tonight but am so worried I’ve harmed the baby. I don’t really know who to turn to as my IVF clinic aren’t interested anymore, the NHS staff I’ve seen don’t seem to know anything about IVF pregnancies and the related meds. Maybe I should see a private consultant, can anyone recommend anyone in London/Southeast area? TIA. x

I was terrified to stop but nothing sinister happened.

I came off Progesterone at 8 weeks, I couldn’t keep going as I ran out. I’m now 15 weeks and there have been no problems. The body starts to produce it naturally although I understand why you are anxious.
