Sac Only - wrong dates?

Hi I have been for an early internal scan this morning due to a light bleed over the weekend. There was a sac (which was a regular shape) and they said it had positive colour around it however they couldn't confirm anything inside. There was something in the sac that kept fading in and out but the sonographer said it should be much clearer for my dates.
They did a pregnancy test that had a strong line from diluted urine and also did bloods which they are re-doing in 48 hours.
They said it may be that my dates are out but I got a BFP 3 weeks a go! I used an Early Response test so I'm trying to work out if is there any way I could be around 5 nearly 6 weeks pregnant if that test was positive 8 days early (as stated on their box) 3 weeks ago? Hope that makes sense!
I thought I'd get a definitive answer today and now I'm feeling confused and worried! Anyone had anything similar?

I thought I was 6+2 when I first had a scan. Sonographer stated I was about 5-6, there was a visible sac and yolk sac but no fetal Pole. Two weeks later at a rescan the baby was there with a heartbeat and my date was put forward to what I originally thought, 8+ weeks. Days make so much difference in the early days. I also got a really early BFP, so it's likely the same could have happened to you. Have you got a rescan booked? Good luck.

polkafly · 18/02/2019 18:43

Hi Bee thank you for your reply. I don't have a scan booked but I have a hormone test again on Wednesday. I think if they are rising they will set another scan date.

If you did the test 8 days early that would be day 20 of a 28 day cycle. 3 weeks (21 days) later = 41 days which is 5 weeks and 6 days so that’s right surely?

newbabyyy2019 · 19/02/2019 07:27

Similar happened to me. I had a scan which should have been exactly 6 weeks to the day and when she scanned me internally there was just the yolk sac and no fetal pole. She told me that I was probably only 4-5 weeks which I know I am not. I know I would of been 6 weeks she booked me in for a rescan and I have a scan this weekend. She told me that everything looked healthy so far and looks really promising but I'm just confused as I've read that by 6 weeks you should be able to see the heart beat so with there being no fetal pole seen at all it's just got my head in a whirlwind and I just want it to be the weekend now so I can find out if there's been any progression (I should be 8 weeks by then)

Hi Madame thank you for doing the maths Smile - it may be that I'm just in the window of 5 weeks. Trouble is I thought I was testing a few days before my period was due but obviously if I ovulated at a different time that month I may have been testing much earlier than a thought. The sonographer said days can make a difference so I'm really hoping it is that.

new It's the unknowing/waiting that's the hard bit for me too. Let us know how you get on at the weekend. Did they track your hormone levels too?

Could you ask for another scan in a week or fortnight?

physicskate · 19/02/2019 08:02

@newbabyyy2019 - it would be highly unusual to see a heartbeat at 6 weeks! It's about 50/50 and 6 and a half weeks.

Mumstheword1987 · 19/02/2019 08:03

This can be a common thing I had this at a scan although it didn't end well for me it isent always the case sometimes it's really hard on early scans for them to be sure

polkafly · 19/02/2019 08:31

Tobe They are going to retest my hormone levels on Wed to compare to yesterday and I'd imagine depending on what they says they'll book another scan from there.

Mums So sorry to hear things didn't work out for you. Googling is so hard as there seems to be a split between those it was fine for and those it wasn't Flowers

@polkafly no I haven't had my hormone levels checked. I've only been for a private scan and don't think they check things like that. I actually haven't been to the doctors yet about being pregnant as I've just moved and need to register at a new doctors. I'll let you know how my scan goes Smile

@physicskate I have heard this but everywhere you read says something different so I suppose when you read that some people saw a heartbeat at 6 weeks and you haven't even got a fetal pole at 6 weeks it automatically sends you into a worry. I suppose this is why most places don't do early scans till about 8 weeks. I'm just very impatient but wish I had waited Sad

polkafly · 20/02/2019 18:04

Quick update: So I've had my hormone test back and it hasn't increased 60% as expected it was 5038 and now is 5800. I am due to have another blood test and scan on Friday. Any one with similar experience of low rising HCG?

No personal experience but having been around on these boards for a long time, I would suggest that you prepare for bad news. My understanding from research is that your HCG should have increased by a lot more than that in 48 hours for it to be a viable and continuing pregnancy. I have, however, had a miscarriage, and I hope the best for you Flowers

polkafly · 20/02/2019 20:22

Thanks twinkle I am trying to stay positive as nurse said she had a patient last week with static hormones and then there was a yolk sac and heartbeat at the scan but I know it may not be good news

FX @polkafly Thanks

newbabyyy2019 · 23/02/2019 13:29

So I went to my 8 week scan today and I actually saw the baby!! The baby has grew, is healthy and has a healthy heartbeat I feel so relieved. The baby is measuring at 7 weeks 3 days so I'm a few days off which explains not seeing a fetal pole but he said it could change when I have another scan. I hope everything is turns out okay with your scans and that it's all good news from now on Thanks

polkafly · 23/02/2019 14:15

Congratulations newbaby really really lovely news. Sadly I have just come home from hospital as I've had to having surgery to remove the pregnancy. I had to go in today as there was some concern about it being ectopic but it seems to be a 'straightforward' missed miscarriage. I have to go back in this week to check bloods to confirm totally. Feeling very sad and sorry for myself this afternoon t xx
