Hi all,

This is my 2nd pregnancy and I'm currently about 8 weeks. Unlike my last pregnancy, I just seem to want to eat ALL the time, proper protein meals, or I get really sick weak and dizzy. I was just now making (veggie) sausages and beans for lunch and had to sit on the kitchen floor I felt so ill. I kept thinking "I should eat something else, anything, until lunch is cooked" but I couldn't face eating anything else. Is this normal? (I got paranoid that maybe it was gestational diabetes but I don't have any of the risk factors and it usually starts later in pregnancy).

Has anyone else had the same? Does anyone have any advice?

Thanks

Babadoo

Hi Babadoo, I am at the same stage with my pg and feel exactly the same way as you, the problem being that I can't stomach eating as I then feel bloated and sick, the only advice I could offer is to just nibble on rich tea or ginger biscuits to try and keep the feeling at bay. Sorry this is probably quite lame!!

Hi, I'm 7 weeks pregnant and have been going through exactly the same thing for the last week or so. Like minxy125, I'm just snacking on ginger biscuits between meals (god, I'm sick of them!) and that seems to be enough just to keep the sickness at bay. I'm also going to stock up on cereal bars and dried fruit - I guess you should just snack on the things you fancy and make sure you don't go a long time without eating (I learned that the hard way!).

eat what you need and make sure you stay active so you dont worry about it x

I was exactly the same - just completely ravenous and wanting stodge all the time.

It did calm down after couple of months. Now I can only manage teeny meals cos of heartburn and feeling really full and squashed quickly

RGPargy · 05/07/2007 13:07

I was the same as ejb1976. Absolutely starving and had to eat nothing but stodge. It has calmed down tho, but i do have to say my appetite is still unpredictable sometimes. I can suddenly be REALLY hungry and i'll have to eat something there and then, even if it's 30 mins before dinner or whatever, and other times i will not be hungry at all!

Just listen to your body and eat what you can that will make you feel better and easy teh sickness/dizziness.

Oh and congratulations!!!

last night i really needed a drink 'RIGHT NOW' and ended up eating a litre and a half of ribena (then ended being up all night going to the loo) but can be exactly the same with food - i have taken to cramming my desk drawer with lots and lots of food 'just incase' i get hungry

mother2b · 05/07/2007 13:21

and congrats

Babadoo · 05/07/2007 13:53

Thanks everyone for your support. After eating my lunch, described as before, I realised I was still starving and ate the other half tin of beans with 2 toast, a banana and an apple!!!!! My trousers won't do up now

I'm just worried about being somewhere, like work, and needing to eat but not being able to and passing out or something! As for nibbling on biscuits, I've really gone off biscuits and chocolate (which I lived on in my last pregnancy). Maybe I'll try crackers or something like that!

Just keep lots of nibbly bits in your drawer so if you feel you have to eat, you can!!

VP · 05/07/2007 14:21

Sounds exactly like me, I have to eat all the time, my drawer is loaded with food and I'm really embarrassed that people at work must think I'm a guts as I haven't told them yet. Better to eat than faint, keep munching x

I was exactly same first trimester - eat all you want, listen to your body. Your body is fab at telling you what you need to maintain the pregnancy.
I ate non stop in first trimester - and was terrified would end up size of house if I carried on that way for 9 months. I was also slightly underweight when i fell pregnant - not sure if you are - but advice is that if you are, to try and start the second trimester at a healthier weight.
My weight came up to a nice level by week 13 and my appetite settled back to normal levels. My weight gain has been no more than those ladies who spent the first 13 weeks with their heads down the loo! We all evened out!
