Early labour??

Hi all,

Just a bit of advice really - I am currently 38+6 this morning and just wondering if maybe this is early labour? It's my first time so finding it hard to tell!!

Yesterday about 2pm I started getting a few tightenings but didn't think too much of it, just thought BH - went for a walk and then ended up with backache and a few period like pains.

Then from about 6pm I had to have a hot water bottle on my back and the period pains continued. I was then getting tightenings about every 10-15 mins but they weren't overly painful.

I managed to get a couple of hours sleep but woke up a few times with tightenings and now still have period pains and back ache (although not as bad) and twinges, including the tightenings.

Might be worth saying I just lose a fair amount of clear mucas (TMI) on Friday morning but wasn't sure if it was the plug or not as lots of people have said they were tinged pink etc.

Will of course see how things go but just wondering if anyone had a similar experience or some advice Smile

I'm having similar at 40+3, had all those symptoms since early last week, had a sweep on Friday too. Never wished pain on myself so much haha

@hayley013 I am the same haha never wished pain on myself!

Interesting to hear you have had this for a few weeks though - maybe it's not as soon as I was hoping then!

Have you had many other symptoms? Good luck!! X

My labour started like this at 37+5, being my first I thought it was maybe Brixton hicks as I had convinced myself I would go overdue. Anyway, as the day went on I started to time my tightenings! I was told I was in latent labour which can go on for a while (sometimes weeks). I stayed at home until I couldn’t breathe through them anymore and felt I needed a bit of pain relief. Luckily mine didn’t go on for weeks but they started on a Friday morning and I went into hospital early hours Sunday morning (about 2am) and had baby at 7pm Sunday night! I lost my plug at home and it was tinged pink and very obviously a plug as didn’t look like anything over ever experienced before. My waters didn’t break at home they were broken at the hospital but I was waiting for that to happen before I believed I was in labour! Fingers crossed for you and good luck!!

Also, try a bath, it really helped me with managing at home until I felt it was time to go to hospital.

Well it's not actually early you are classed as full term so this could well be it!
Best of luck, keep us updated!

I think OP just means early as in early stages of labour. Not that the baby is coming early l.

Bigonesmallone3 · 18/02/2019 12:17

🤦‍♀️ haha.. gotcha

mrsed1987 · 18/02/2019 12:30

Yep thats how mine started. My plug was clear i think. Lost that on the thursday and went in to labour on the monday morning, stay at home till 11.30p. When my waters broke then had him at 4.41am x

Yes just meant early stages, sorry for confusion :)

Thank you everyone - still getting lots of period style pains and dull back ache and have had a few urgent needs to use the loo this morning too (probably also TMI!!) and a fair bit of pressure down there.

Will just see what happens in the next 12 hours or so I think! Trying to keep busy...

@MrsXx4 thanks for the bath tip - think il try that shortly as trying to get comfortable is a little bit tricky - hoping this doesn't go on for weeks!!!!! Shock

Sounds like things are going in the right direction. Good luck!

ells20 · 18/02/2019 18:00

@Thesearmsofmine thanks!

No more progress but very much the same - although I think the period pains are getting more painful now but tightenings aren't bad at all x
