What is the point of membrane sweeps?

Just ranting really

I am a week overdue and a FTM. I’ve had my second sweep and it hurt so much more than the first one... nothing has happened or progressed since the first one and I feel so disheartened.

I’m due for a midwife appointment Tuesday and I don’t know if she’ll do a third sweep then. Can I just say no and insist on being induced as this clearly isn’t working?

If nothing happens, I'd personally go for the induction but that's probably because I'm impatient lol.

When I was trying to encourage dc1 to come out, I spent an hour bouncing on my birthing ball and twiddling my nipples (releases oxytocin) and my waters broke less than 12 hours later. May have been a coincidence but worth a try!

@Mrsmummmy90... I have tried both of those things although not at the same time 😂 I’ll be giving that a go tomorrow.

I just feel if they were going to work then they would have by now and that I’ve just been in pain for nothing

Poor you...they are so fecking sore!

I had one in my first pregnancy and came out of the hospital and vomited! The plus side is my show started right away and I went into Labour the next day... I had decided I would decline one in my second pregnancy but he came early, I don’t think they do anything unless you’re ready to pop anyway.

The last bit of pregnancy is so shit! I didn't go over so I can't even imagine how fed up you must be feeling!

Ask to be induced and if all else fails, stick an eviction notice on your stomach!!

I had thought the second sweep would have been like the first but noooo. It was a different midwife who did it so I don’t know if that made a difference but she was rough!

I had to get her to stop for a second as I was going to cry 😳 so much for all the hypnobirthing 🙈

It is making me a right grumpy and emotional mess as I had so many pre labour symptoms since 36.5 I didn’t expect to be overdue
