Finding out the sex

2 pregnancies; 1st one we knew the sex, this one we don't. I FAR prefered the experience of knowing!! This "surprise" thing is a let down so far. Obviously we are talking about sex not gender and baby may decide to go their own path entirely, but for now I do wish I knew! Seems silly to find out this far along though (27 weeks); our hospital don't tell you so it would mean a private scan and, since I'm having at least 12 scans already (last baby was 11 weeks early so I'm high risk) this seems excessive! We will be delighted either way but just wanted to note that so far finding out was much more fun! Fingers crossed the "surprise" is worth it on the day...

I found out with my first, a girl( 14 years nearly )and didn’t with our 2nd, a boy ( nearly a year) I much preferred not knowing.

Everyone who asked was always pleasantly surprised that we were having a surprise and everyone was excited to find out.
I will say I feel the pregnancy really dragged but that probably didn’t have anything to do with not knowing sex.

I know how you feel. Not knowing would kill me. This is my 2nd pregnancy and we're in a new area so don't know how it works here. If I can't find out I'll go mad. My anxiety will sky rocket because I need to be mentally prepared.

DM on the other hand seems upset every time I say I want to find out. Hmm

I found out with dc1 and am finding out this dc's sex in 11 days and I'm really excited!

I know a lot of people who kept it a surprise and loved it but I'm soooo impatient and I feel like I can prepare better if I know!

@kelly14 see we have had the opposite; everyone who asks seems disappointed that we aren't finding out. Although this might be because we are disappointed ourselves!
Last time, because he was so early, knowing the sex really helped as it was the only thing we were prepared for and meant we had a name that we had been calling him for a few weeks already. This time it's hard to pick a name and I don't feel as bonded with the baby. We have even discussed just finding out now but too be honest I think this baby will be early too so it might only be the difference of a few weeks now; hardly seems worth it!

I think that’s the bit I don’t like. I am
finding out. Should this week actually but at the moment I’ve got to say he/she it whenever I talk about the baby. I don’t like that and it seems less real somehow.

Can’t wait to know then I can use he or she properly :)

rosydreams · 18/02/2019 13:45

i had two 20 week scans and they still couldn't get a good look =p

i have so many of my daughters old clothes i just want to know whether or not i need to sell them =/

Karigan195 · 18/02/2019 13:53

I’m awaiting results of the NIPT with the gender check :) don’t have to try to interprete scans lol

Shelbybear · 18/02/2019 20:25

I've heard of some doing surprise first time then finding out second time. Means u know whether u can use the old clothes etc or sell. Oh I'd really want to know!

I wanted to know with my first but 20wk scan she said oh can't get gd view but if I had to, I wld say it's a girl but don't rush out and buy stuff it's not clear 🙄 I was like she shld have just said nothing!

I had a 3D scan at 29wks, the actual 3D scan thing was ok, she wasn't playing ball again and I had to come bk another day 😂 I liked how they cld check everything again and tell me a rough weight, showed me her hair! She had her foot in her face so the pics weren't good lol.

You may not bother though if you are getting extra scans

Just spend another night then today as well at the hospital having tests and being stressed. Decided enough is enough and I need something fun and positive to do with baby so I've booked a private scan for Saturdat to find out the sex! Really looking forward to it now!

It's a girl! The scan was a lovely experience and I had a wee cry. One of each!
