Got 12wk scan date but no midwife appt?

Exactly that really. I have received confirmation of my scan date, but not my first midwife appt.

Is that right?!

1st pregnancy and was expecting my midwife appt before scan date. Although there was a f*ck up with my hospital not receiving my referral from my community midwife - perhaps that’s why?

How many weeks are you? You would usually have the booking in appointment first but possibly it is being booked by a different department and/or they are running a bit late with booking ones.

I got my letter about the scan before the letter about my booking appointment. The booking appointment was 2 weeks before the scan though.

If your scan isn't for another month or so, I wouldn't worry yet. It may be worth chasing if you don't get it early next week though.

Have you had your booking in appointment? You mentioned community midwife.

ChrisPrattsFace · 16/02/2019 08:34

I made a booking in appointment, and she made my scan appointment while I was there!
Chase it up and try and arrange that appointment before your scan.

Some places do them together. Ring and ask.

How has the community midwife referred you if you haven’t seen her? In our trust you need to have discussed combined screening prior to first scan in order to decide whether you want it and I’m pretty sure that’s a national standard for the fetal anomaly screening programme

Mine both happened during the same appointment. In the order of blood sample, ultrasound scan, urine sample and then saw the midwife for booking appointment...and then saw another midwife about antenatal education eg food, exercise etc. They gave me the appointment dates for my next two scans and the dates for all my antenatal classes. It's a busy hospital so I took snacks, but it all went quite quickly in the end.

I’d get in touch with them if you’re unsure. All trusts are different so you’ll struggle to find an answer. Here you can’t get scan appointment before you see a midwife. The midwife actually books your scan while you’re at your booking in appointment, then they confirm it via letter.

Sorry, I should have explained in my OP.

I had an appt with the community midwife. I thought this was my booking in appt (where I understand you have your BMI taken, medical history, bloods etc). None of this happened at this appt, all that happened was the midwife asked where I wanted to give birth, I told her and she filled in a form to refer me there.

I chased up the hospital after not hearing for a week. They hadn’t received my referral. Chased community midwife and she sent it off. At this time hospital also confirmed I would have scan and midwife appt separately, not even at same location.

I have now received my scan date (next Tues). But no midwife appt (where surely they’ll take blood etc, all the things I expected at my appt with the community midwife)

I am 11 weeks. On my scan date I will be 12+3.

Thanks & sorry for not including these details!

I would chase up your booking in appointment- maybe they combine it with scan though?

You have your scan booked in which is the main thing for now. Look up 12 week abnormality tests to see if you want them as they will be done at the scan.

ChrisPrattsFace · 16/02/2019 15:08

They could be the same appointment?
I have my scan next week and am having repeat bloods etc (because of other health issues) so maybe a similar protocol for your area?

HalfBloodPrincess · 16/02/2019 16:09

Mine were all at the same appointment- scan, bloods and booking at 12ish weeks. Had 4 pregnancies at 3 different hospitals/trusts and it was the same process
