Hi OP. I am rhesus negative and had a fall when I was around 10 weeks pg with dc2. I didn't bleed as a result of the fall but was having sporadic spotting / bleeding anyway (probably due to an ectropion but the cause was never established).

I called my midwife who advised to call the hospital. There was a lot of mmm and ahhh. They told me there was no official guidance about what to do what my stage of the pregnancy as apparently the baby's blood is not fully developed so there would be no chance of his blood and mine coming into contact and antibodies being developed. However seeing that it was a grey area they gave me the anti d injection anyway. For background my first DC is rhesus negative and DC2 is positive.

This was 5 years ago so it could be that guidelines are different now or science has moved on.

@AndhowcouldIeverrefuse its so confusing, i rang my GP the receptionist told me to ring 111 so I did and they have told me to ring my Gp and speak to a doctor, now receptionist is telling me there is none available and its weekend!! So I'm screwed either way basically! Xx

@AndhowcouldIeverrefuse It says online the blood starts to develop from 5 weeks and starts to be pumped by the heart at 6 so Im guessing I'm still safe 🤔

Have you had your booking appointment with a midwife yet? If not I would ask the GP receptionist for the midwife phone number or the maternity ward at your local hospital.

HJWT · 15/02/2019 17:23

@AndhowcouldIeverrefuse no I haven't snd i think they will all be finished for the week wont they at this time x

Ah our GP finishes at 6pm. You could be brazen and ring the hospital switchboard. Either that or out of hours GP?

Hi OP
I’m rhesus negative and was always told no anti-d Injection is needed before 12 weeks.
My son is 6 weeks old so this is fairly recent information.
I had spotting between 5 and 7 weeks.
Then a small red bed at 11+5 weeks and wasn’t given anti-d either time.
I had more spotting at 15 weeks and was then told to go in for the anti-d.
Hope this helps x

MagicalCreatures · 15/02/2019 17:34

If your still unsure, then I’m guessing you’ve not had your booking in appt yet so call the hospital and ask to be put through to triage.
They are available 24/7 and are the ones that issue the anti-d injection.
That’s in my area anyway. I’m only assuming it’s similar elsewhere x

HJWT · 15/02/2019 17:45

Thanks everyone, I'm feeling a bit crampy so if I get any more bleeding I will go in anyway 😩

Hmm I had a very early MC last year (5 weeks or less) and I didn’t tell doctors or hospital, which maybe I should have because am rhesus neg. However, they checked me early on in this pregnancy for antibodies and I don’t have any.
At 3+5 I’d assume it’s either left over implantation bleeding or the start of a chemical, and I don’t think you need the jab but obviously you’d hope that EPU or a doctor would know.

HJWT · 15/02/2019 18:24

@Cookit my doctor has rang back, they are doing a blood test Monday and want me to do a pregnancy test, if it comes back positive then they want me to have the anti d xx

Cookit · 15/02/2019 18:26

Well that’s good. Better to have even unnecessarily.

Stinkytoe · 15/02/2019 18:26

I had multiple early miscarriages and bleeding at 6 weeks with a healthy pregnancy. No jab needed for any of them - this is as recent as 6 months ago and the advice was given in 3 different countries (we moved a lot)

Jellycat1 · 15/02/2019 18:46

I'm O neg OP and I believe if it's your second child then it's dependent on the blood type of your first. My first child was also O neg and so I didn't need it for my second pregnancy. Second child was O positive so I believe I had it after him. Your hospital should have given it to you after your first birth if it was required. Obviously don't take anyone's word for it but if your DD is O neg I think you're ok. If not, I'd probably go to EPU if you don't get anywhere with GP.

HJWT · 15/02/2019 19:10

@Cookit sorry forgot to say that was the advice she got from the hospital xx

You don’t need it for bleeding before 12 weeks. I had a massive bleed at 7 weeks and didn’t have it.
You do need if you have a surgical management of a miscarriage or ectopic pre 12 weeks though.
