Dates dont add up

Hi all. Pregnant with dc4. And my midwife I think has got my dates and timings mixed up. The first day of last period was 19th July 2018. They have changed my due date from 22nd April 2019 to 29th April 2019. So by my calculations I would be now 30 weeks. My mid wife is saying I am 28 weeks +5.

I think this is way off.
Based by my dates and I know exactly she i conceived as I planned everything I am more towards 30 to 31 weeks. But their dates should show I am 30 weeks but she's adamant according to her wheel I am 28. It's starting to piss me off now!

I always got my dates right with the others and she was always a couple of weeks out with them too. But she never listens to me

Any one else have trouble with this? Is it a problem?

An online calculator, and a 28 day cycle suggests a due date of 25th. So both 22 and 29 are in the right place. And 30 weeks.

If the due date is about right, I dong think it matters massively on the number of weeks? The interventions will start post due date, whatever her wheel says??? Or 2 weeks before due date if there is a need for early intervention???

I wonder if the wheel is calculating from conception or something funny??? It would all stack up then....

What does your dating scan say?

Be aware that conception happens from when egg is fertilised not when you did the deed.

A dating scan is more likely to give you an accurate date.

JaesseJexaMaipru · 14/02/2019 07:05

Pregnancy "number of weeks" always counts from the first day of last period, so at the moment of conception you are already 2 weeks pregnant.

The number of weeks a pregnancy is expected to last is not an exact science. Are you in the UK op? In the UK the default assumption is 40 weeks so you would have a due date of 25th April. In France they assume 42 weeks so you would have a due date of 9th May. The baby will not pay any attention to these calculations and will come when she/he feels like it.

Why does this matter though? Is there some critical thing that hinges on what your notes say about the due date, which will be disrupted by a difference of a few days?

PurpleFlower1983 · 14/02/2019 07:18

Go with your scan dates.

Toupholsterornot · 14/02/2019 07:29

I know it's not from conception. I'm going by my period date. They kept changing my due date. But the due date they give me doesn't add up to the weeks she is saying I am. We are having another home birth and if it is too early by her weeks then it won't happen. I think she has something written down wrong. Like I said she did this with all my others and I was right with all of them within a few days of the date

Toupholsterornot · 14/02/2019 07:30

And yes UK. They let you go up to 42 weeks. But in that case I would actually be 43 weeks if you see what I mean

OP posts:
Toupholsterornot · 14/02/2019 07:30

The due date isn't the issue. She is writing me down as 1 week behind what it should be.

Does it matter? The baby will come on its own schedule.

Haha pa. I used an online calculator and counted the weeks on my calender. It doesn't matter it's irrational and just pissing me off. Because if by my calculations I went into labour at 37 weeks she will say I'm 36 and will need to go to hospital which isn't ideal as we have 3 other children and no baby sitter. Obv dh would look after them but would be easier if it was at home. That and she practically rams a home birth down my throat for the last 3 pregnancies.

Its just me being silly but it is annoying me. And I know baby will come when ready.... done it 3 times before. I can accurately guess the time baby will be here once my waters break. Every birth has been identical..... It's just annoying me that's all.

What is your due date on your 12 week scan report? Everyone will use that. Sounds like she has possibly just made an error with her wheel and then used that to count forwards at future appointments. I wouodn’t Worry too much, it’s easily checked.

KateTTC123 · 14/02/2019 08:16

In my experience dates are very important. If your baby is prem for example then the number of days is crucial. You're past the 24 week mark but at that stage the number of days can make the difference between the doctors intervening to save the baby or not. Mine was born at 29 and 5 and the exact gestation he was is important when calculating everything to do with his care going forward. I would fight your corner; it does matter.

3out · 14/02/2019 08:29

I would take along a calendar and literally count back the weeks with her and ask her how she’s getting such different dates.

3out · 14/02/2019 08:32

You’d be 29 +3 at the moment going with the 29th of April, yeah?

purplemama1990 · 14/02/2019 09:03

I'm sure it will sort itself out, as long as due date is 29th April then you're 29 + 3 today. Possibly she made a mistake in calculating (don't really understand how?) but it will sort itself out in the next appointments when she (hopefully) calculates it right?

Darkstar4855 · 14/02/2019 09:05

Due date of 29th April makes you 29+3.

Toupholsterornot · 14/02/2019 14:43

Oh really. I have on my pregnancy app using my period dates 30 +1 sorry for late reply got distracted by school run and forgot!

It's not a huge deal but now I'm confused. But I will take your ladies dates as so many ofnyou had the same numbers.

Thank you

It annoyed me that my dates kept going the opposite way to you, which I know was impossible as nothing had happened in the two weeks prior (caravan holiday with family!) Either way - no one can force you into hospital if you don't want to go.

Toupholsterornot · 14/02/2019 15:50

True fluffy. They changed my date twice. So that probs why I am confused. I'm going to make myself 30 weeks for my own sanity! I don't want to go back a week! Lol

OP posts:
NannyPear · 14/02/2019 17:18

My DD is 4th May and I'm 28+5 if that helps?

To anyone saying does it matter? Of course it does. If OP goes into labour at 37 weeks, based on the midwife's calculations she wouldn't get her homebirth as she wouldn't be classed as full term. Similarly induction could be delayed if she went past 42 weeks.

I imagine the confusion is rectified easily by them checking the scan date and calculating appropriately at the next visit.

For what it's worth, at my dating scan I was told a date, which was written down on a page. The sonographer then signed another page and wrote a different date which then everyone referred to. It was one day out and really annoyed me even though I'm well aware it didn't actually matter much at all 😅

3out · 14/02/2019 19:00

Once you have your dating scan (12 week scan usually) then the date calculated at that becomes your due date - 40 weeks - and then you work backwards from then regarding how many weeks pregnant you are if that makes sense? The LMP date isn’t really taken into consideration after the 12 week scan.

GR2529 · 14/02/2019 19:10

It definitely does matter. If you have an early baby, the weeks could make a huge difference. Similarly if you go overdue. i wouldn't be happy with her being so flakey. What if you show her your scan photos with the weeks and dates on?

My LMP was 6th July, conceived either 20/21st July and due date is 12th April.. I'm 32 weeks tomorrow.. if that helps at all?

Cookit · 14/02/2019 19:26

I thought once you had a date from dating scan that was it, your final date? Not up to the midwife at all but up to the dates the sonographer comes up with?
