Working whilst pregnant...

Just after opinions/advice.

I work for a small family run business as an administrator. I'm currently 23 weeks pregnant and already struggling physically.

I'm expected to provide refreshments throughout the day for all office staff (8 total) which is verbally part of my job description but never set in concrete or even signed a job description.

I've always done it to keep the peace. But since I'm getting more and more pregnant, I'm finding it really difficult to complete this simple task. Our office is on the 1st floor and kitchen on the ground so therefore have to go up and downstairs with the tray full of heavy drinks which kills me.

The printer is also on the 2nd floor so again, have to go up and down to get stuff from it. I often get asked by others to just 'grab something' which is easier said than done whilst pregnant.

Can I say that I simply cannot do the refreshments task anymore? I'm nearly bloody passing out on my way back up with a heavy tray and just don't want to get a bollockin if I refuse to do so. I stand there catching my breath where others can see I'm struggling but no one takes notice. I don't even get a please when I get requested to do a round of drinks 😒

Of course you can! How cruel that no one has bothered to help you. Get yourself sorted and tell them you need help! X

Your employers sound charming... yes, of course they must make reasonable adjustments! Thanks

Unless your specific job is 'the tea lady' then you need to tell everyone they will have to get their own drinks. They were CF to expect this of you before you were even pregnant!

Have they done your risk assessment? Heavy tray of drinks and stairs will surely be a no no as things progress. Hope they sort it!
