Showing at week 9?

Morning everyone,

Am expecting our first child. Am 9 weeks today and clearly showing a bump. I have been eating more but keeping it predominantly healthy.

A lot of research suggests it's uncommon to show this early with first pregnancy? Has anyone else experienced this? I'm size 10 and average height so not tiny. Haven't had scan yet so dates aren't definite but estimated with the pregnancy test that say the amount of weeks gone.

I have put on 4 pounds over these 2 months, but looks like only on my belly (and breasts!). Am worried after research this is just weight gain due to food, but very unusual for it all to go straight to my belly.

Thanks in advance xx

The baby is still tiny so it would definitely be unusual to have an obvious bump, but it's very common to get bloating this early on which can look like a bump.

Agree with lp about bloating. I was so so bloated in the first trimester.

I'm similar sounding build to you, and started showing after meals around week 12, then just plain showing around week 14/15. Again earlier than lots of people. It bothered me at first but you just have to remember everyone is different.

DontBuyANewMumCashmere · 12/02/2019 08:22

Definitely bloating.
With my first I didn't show until I was well over 20 weeks but I'm now 16 wks and massive! Shock

DontBuyANewMumCashmere · 12/02/2019 08:22

I mean 16 weeks with another one obvs...

Im on 3+2 with second baby and I feel like someones pumped me up I'm so bloated 🥴

PBobs · 12/02/2019 08:43

Bloating. I had terrible bloat with my pregnancy at the beginning. Then looked back to normal for a week or two. Now I have an actual bump at 23 weeks - only come out in the last week or so mind.

TwittleBee · 12/02/2019 09:18

tbf your uterus expands to the size of a grapefruit by week 9 despite baby only being the size of a grape plus hormones bloat you out seriously!

As an IBD sufferer, bloat really can make you look like you are showing (I often have boats of bloating that makes me look like I am showing even when I am not pregnant!)

I didn't "pop" till past 20 weeks with DS but certainly was showing by week 17 although I felt I was huge at week 10 haha (actually wrote a similar post to you back then!)

LittleDoveLove · 12/02/2019 09:19

I was massively bloated until my bloat just became a bump at around 4 months I think it was. X

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc · 12/02/2019 09:35

I was in maternity trousers at 8 weeksGrin

BillyAndTheSillies · 12/02/2019 09:38

I'm 5+2 with DC2. Honestly by 4pm I'm so bloated I look about 4 months pregnant. I think I'll have to unpack the maternity clothes fairly soon. It's all bloat but it's so uncomfortable.
I was in maternity wear full time from about 16 weeks with DC1.

The size of the baby isn't always relevant to the changes in your body...I had stretch marks on my tiny bump at 12 weeks. Yet still hear people advising that if you don't gain too much weight in pregnancy you won't get them Hmm

TerriB1984 · 12/02/2019 09:55

Yes there is bloating but as a PP said your uterus is already expanding by then even if baby is tiny. I had a small but clear bump by 9 weeks with my first to the point that some people had guessed I was pregnant before we announced at 12 weeks. I measured ahead the whole way through my pregnancy (all bump) and was massive by the end! Currently pregnant with 2nd and heading the same way...

CatSmize · 12/02/2019 10:34

I am size 6 and I've had a belly on me since about 5w! I'm now 8w+1 and I've had to wear my jeans undone for the past 2 weeks. I haven't gained any weight and I'm only bigger around my stomach.

Owloft · 13/02/2019 21:54

Definitely bloating. I looked about 6 months pregnant when I was 10 weeks, it was ridiculous.

Slidex · 14/02/2019 07:46

Thanks so much everyone. This platform is like an 'ask the audience' lifeline! Defo bloating came out way on top!

Can't wait until the first scan to check if peanut is heathy.

Thanks again, much appreciated

What Twittlebee said :). Baby may be tiny but your uterus is now grapefruit sized and all it takes is for the position to be at the front and pointing forwards etc and you’ll show more. Plus you are going to be slim at a size ten so may show sooner anyway.

There will be some bloat making it look bigger but it’s still baby related :)

MonkeyToucher · 14/02/2019 14:28

As it’s most likely bloating, don’t be alarmed if it goes down in a few weeks time! I was stupidly bloated around the 12 week mark then it totally disappeared and I freaked out a bit. My “proper” bump hasn’t emerged until after 20 weeks in both pregnancies...
