Doctors blood tests for pregnancy

Hey all!
I’ve tested positive but have been ttc for three years so super nervous. I’m booked in with my doctor Monday and want to ask for a blood test as I’ve had chemical pregnancies before. Does anyone know if the results are instant?

Hi @Loulou8419. Are you in the UK? If so, it's very unlikely they'll give you a blood test as home pregnancy tests are considered to be so reliable these days.

I'm sorry for your precious losses and wish you a healthy pregnancy. Thanks

No, blood results are not instant. Even in a hospital you’d be likely looking at a hours turn around if they were ‘fast tracked’. For which I would be surprised they would do for bHCG (pregnancy).
If it’s GPs taking them, you’d be looking at probably 24hours minimum, possibly 72hrs by the time they are ‘processed’ again, at the GPs

Hi, whereabouts are you? I went to a private phlebotomy clinic and it was really reasonable. Results took 2-3 hours as well which was really good.

Thank you all - I will see what they say as I’ll definitely ask if it’s possible 😊

@teakind I’m east London

Generally blood tests are taken 48 hrs apart to confirm both that you are pregnant and that it is progressing.

Due to being an IVF pregnancy I had to have bloods taken 2 days apart once back from our treatment. Had the first test on a Wednesday in cyprus which confirmed pregnancy; consultant advised to get next test done on the Friday (were still in transit so were unable to organise this) if not to wait till the Tuesday. Was able to organise private blood tests through GP surgery for the Tuesday and had them done in the late afternoon. Results were not back on the Wednesday so had to wait till I went in for my second set of bloods on the Thursday when they had received them. The Thursday bloods were early morning and I got the results back by lunchtime on the Friday.

If you have a Mediclini centre near you you can usually get results the same day. A lot of private hospitals will only do tests if they are overseeing the pregnancy due to fertility issues/ivf. Alternatively you might be able to find a local private GP service who you can book in with for the bloods.

How many chemicals have you had? GPs are generally very reluctant to do anything in early pregnancy in my experience. You can order bloods tests online with Medichecks- I've been using them for various tests due to IVF. It's £49 for a beta HCG and you'd need two to check that you level is doubling roughly every 48 hours as this would indicate a pregnancy progressing well. If the £100 is affordable and worth it for your peace of mind definitely do it, but if not it might be a case of wait and see Flowers

Sorry it's so hard. I've had one live baby from five rounds of IVF, one early miscarriage and lost my love babies twin so know how difficult it is Flowers
