I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.
It has been suggested that I add some practical tooth cleaning advice: a lot of sufferers find using a child's small toothbrush and strawberry toothpaste far less nauseating.
On my image of a pink castle: that is an image I use because when I was little, my family had a Snakes and Ladders board with an image on the last square of a pink castle in the clouds. As Hyperemesis is so like a grotesque version of Snakes and Ladders - eat a meal, go up a ladder, first thing in the morning bile run, down a snake - I have used the image of that pink castle on the last square of that Snakes and Ladders board as a metaphor for the happy end of Hyperemesis.

Oh beanhunter we cross posted! Congratulations on the birth of your daughter! And the enjoyment of being vomit free! Enjoy the gorgeous sleepy newborn cuddles :)

Reastie · 12/04/2019 17:21

Bean that’s fantastic news, I hope you’re recovering well and all went well. Congratulations. It must be amazing to not feel sick anymore.

Eal re induction, I did research into this last time as I had an induction and I’ve known of people refusing the drip (which they can give you after they’ve done the pessaries and broken your waters) unless they are first given an epidural so they know they will get one and because it cane become quite intense sooner than natural labour. Assuming they still do it in the same way, it’s been a few years since dd! Might be worth considering to ask consultant about if you wanted to have an epi anyway.

LucindaE · 12/04/2019 18:03

beanhunter Happy News.Star Flowers Smile Brew Cake. Wonderful that you feel OK.So do the vast majority of sufferers, within hours or a couple of days at most. We will miss you.
eallison I am so glad that you have had reassurance and they have a plan in place. On boredom, I expect you will end up reading 'War and Peace' like super geek Mother Hen. I have added you. What a horrible scare, though. Don't fret about lO's behaviour; he will soon get over it all with reassurance. Besides, isn't he two now? There would be something to worry about if he wasn't having tantrums, though no doubt feeling uncertain about your absences adds to it.

lucinda he's 3.5 now (And don't forget the .5, he's very precious about it!). He's doing well. We had a bed picnic together for tea, then got him into his pjs and had a bedtime story. They've just left. I'm a bit sad, but it's manageable!

Blii · 12/04/2019 19:37

Ohh eal! Big news, babies born at 34 weeks are just fine :) amazing that you don’t have much longer to go, you’ve been through so much.
Bean... congratulations!! Lovely news.
Not much happening my end, feeling just like I have no energy and no motivation to do anything. I did sort out all the kids clothes though, they have both had growth spurts. So I’m putting away clothes again for new arrival for a few years time. Was exhausting stuff. I feel bad I’m not doing much with the kids this Easter holiday, we’ve got nothing fun planned :(

eallison88 · 12/04/2019 19:48

blii your kids will just be chuffed not to be in school - that's exciting enough!! Every time my son has grown out of clothes in recent months he's very excitedly told me to put them away "for when our baby is bigger!". Make sure you rest this evening, sorting thru stuff will have taken it out of you.

norbert23 · 12/04/2019 19:59

Huge congratulations @beanhunter how lovely and exciting! Enjoy all the tea, toast and snuggles xx

Fingers crossed for you @eallison88 if it's any comfort my friend just had 3 weeks in hospital for the same thing and her baby was born at 33 weeks but home within a week and doing incredibly well. I know it'll be hard though maybe you can get someone to bring an iPad or some good books to pass the time xx

norbert23 · 12/04/2019 20:00

Also, hope you get a better sleep tonight @cattaxi xxx

cattaxi · 13/04/2019 18:22

Huge congrats @beanhunter!

How are you today @eallison88? I hope they are giving you decent food. It’s good that you have a plan in place. And getting those steroids into the baby is great.
How is you ds coping with you being in hospital? Our ds is 3.5 as well. I imagine it must be very hard for you both. Thinking of you.

Thanks @norbert23. I don’t think I’ll sleep properly until we get some answers. I feel so guilty for complaining about my sickness & not being excited about my pregnancy. Now we are faced with things potentially going very wrong, I’m devestated.

I have spent this afternoon being very sick, which is quite welcome in a way. I’ve had a good few days & was starting to worry it was a bad sign!

I hope everyone is having a good weekend x

LucindaE · 13/04/2019 19:18

cattaxi Sorry, I somehow missed your post about the head measurement worry and potential cvs. That is so stressful. I was given a very high risk of downs for my age and had an amnio - waiting was awful. Gentle cyber pats on offer if required.
eallison My goodness, fancy him being nearly three and a half already! I am sure he will be happier for that session with you. I hope your family-in-law are now being symapthetic, as it is about time!
Waves to all. I hope everyone is copin today.

DeadDoorpost · 13/04/2019 20:30

Congratulations Bean!! Glad the sickness has gone.

Eal, glad you're being monitored, even if it means being in til the end of the month. At least you're in the best place if anything happens really suddenly.

norbert23 · 13/04/2019 20:55

Don't feel guilty @cattaxi you don't need to add that into the worry you're dealing with. I know it's easier said than done but you need to be kind to yourself. Being sick on top sounds really hard, I've had a similar step back this week which has been a pain. I know it's strangely reassuring though! Will be thinking of you and hope you can take your mind off it somehow in the meantime x

Reastie · 14/04/2019 10:54

Cattaxi sorry I didn’t comment on your scan results. Good luck for tomorrow, do you have to wait long for the results? I’m really scared for issues that could’ve been picked up on screening at 12 week scan as I felt too sick to manage to have the blood test for the screening so I’m in absolute blissful ignorance. I wasn’t overly worried until I saw how much more likely issues are for me now I’m old. I completely get your nervousness and hand holding supplied here if you need it. What times the apt?

Eal hows the hospital stay going?

Rubbish morning here, and yesterday afternoon was rubbish too. Was trying to sort through baby stuff from the loft but just couldn’t do it as every minute I was (even though it was all from being seated) I felt sicker and sicker. I just can’t wait to be able to do stuff again and not feel sick! Dd and dh gone to the shops this morning so having a quiet rest on the sofa. I’m just so over all this. 30 weeks tomorrow and I’m hoping the last furlong doesn’t drag as much as everything else has so far. At least the end is in sight!

nailsathome · 14/04/2019 11:06

Hi everyone.

I hope you're all not feeling too awful today. My twins are now 10 months and I had HE from 16 weeks through to 34 weeks when they were delivered. This thread was a lifeline for me so I just popped in to say 1) there is light at the end of the tunnel and 2) make sure you look after yourself and push with the medical professionals if they try to fob you off. I wish I had done more of that!

Get help from people and let them know it's not "just morning sickness". Big hugs to you all.

cattaxi · 14/04/2019 11:10

Thanks @LucindaE, @norbert23 & @Reastie. It’s hard to think of anything else. The appt is tomorrow afternoon, but we have to travel quite far to a specialist centre, so will be out most of the day.
I’m hoping to feel a bit clearer about things after speaking to the consultant. I’m sure they said they will rescan to check the measurement as well. Then a few weeks to wait for results. I’m just going to have to work very hard at putting it to the back of my mind & getting on with enjoying Easter with the family.

Hope everyone is ok today. We’re going to attempt to distract ourselves & entertain the kids with a cinema trip.

PseudocideBlonde · 14/04/2019 11:16

Hi everyone

I was on here for both of my DC - most recently 2014 with DD

I just wondered if any of you have had bad experiences with the morning after pill or if I'm going crazy. Or if I'm pregnant..

Stupidly DTD last Monday. Monday. 7 bloody days ago, and I took the MAP that afternoon. But I've puked Friday, and today and I'm...worried.

I'm a scientist. I logically know that even if implantation took place immediately (unlikely if not impossible) that my HCG levels wouldn't reach puking levels for several more days even in someone who is HG prone but...

You remember the early weeks? When you're begging for help / better drugs / understanding and its awful? I'm bloody terrified... And crazy cos you know... science...

Reastie · 14/04/2019 11:34

Pseudo I’ve heard the morning after pill can cause sickness. I think it’s pretty strong hormones and my logic is o know my body reacts badly with hormones and so I feel I’m more likely to get side effects with something like map (although heave never tried it). Can you tolerate hormone contraception? As I get bad side effects with that too. You took the pill soon afterwards which increases effectiveness. Hopefully your body will adjust itself back to its norms soon and you’ll feel better. I just read up on map and it says it can delay your next period, so even if af is late arriving it doesn’t mean you’re pg.

Cattaxi enjoy the cinema

Nails it’s always good to hear from someone who is out the other end. This pg feels absolutely neverending!

PseudocideBlonde · 14/04/2019 11:40

Thank you @Reastie (I think I remember you, were you on here in 2009/10 or 2013/14 or am I just recognizing you from elsewhere?)

Lognow I'm just beingsilly but I didn't realise how scared I was at the idea of HG again

Reastie · 14/04/2019 11:44

It’s scary when you’re confronted with hg again, I know I became almost phobic of pg after dd (yet here I am again...). Hopefully a few days and you’ll be fine once your system has settled back down again. I was onnthis thread a bit in 2010 when I was pg with dd but also after that asking questions at avarious points as I was considering another pg for a long time before I felt brave enough to go through with it so you may well recognise me from then.

Reastie · 14/04/2019 11:45

Fwiw I was prescribed prochloroperazine when I came off the pill because of the nausea and dizziness it caused whilst my system got back to normal. You can buy otc in buccal form if you’re still struggling.

eallison88 · 14/04/2019 14:18

pseudo the feeling sick and worrying is so difficult and stressful. If you were pregnant, when would you be able to test earliest?

Thanks for asking reastie, it's not too bad.... Baby did give us all a bit of a fright yday early hours. I had pretty intense bleeding, regular contractions and I was 4cm dilated. All sorts of injections in me to protect baby, a tour of the NICU (which I'm very glad we had, I'm now much calmer about what to expect there). Basically the team was assembled, cos if I go into labour now they won't stop it. Then about 3pm baby seemed to reassess it's decision and everything stopped! So I'm off delivery and back on antenatal on conservative management again. Every hour cooking is a bonus!! Feeling sick today, but suspect that's cos I was nil by mouth yday morning cos they thought I might be whisked into surgery, and can't take my steroids without food. So hopefully getting back into decent food habits today will help with that!

cattaxi best of luck tomorrow. Frustrating to have to travel so far, but at least with it being a specialist hospital you're more likely to get some answers. I'll be thinking of you

DeadDoorpost · 14/04/2019 14:54

pseudo with this pregnancy I was almost sick (bent over the loo, gagging) probably the day of implantation from my dates. Reminded me of my last HG pregnancy. Hopefully for you it's just a funny stomach or the pill.

Been a whole week without tablets and threw up today. Didn't feel ill after though so I'm guessing my body has needed it for a while.

DeadDoorpost · 14/04/2019 14:58

eal hopefully baby stays in just another week longer at least, but exactly as you say.. every extra hour is a bonus. Fingers crossed for you

PseudocideBlonde · 14/04/2019 15:26

Ladies, thank you. I'm being a drama queen, because logic shall be my friend. Plus, I've just found cyclizine that I use for migraines on the back of the cupboard after @Reastie suggested prochlorperazine...

I'm going to start testing from tomorrow, for as long as it takes until my period comes. I'm heading to the cheapie shops to stock up because every day I start with a negative is a day we tell me I'm just panicking.

I've not made a habit at all of the morning after pill but the last time we had a slip up, I took it and literally, no symptoms.

I completely put how bad hg was last time out of my mind. I literally have blanked my pregnancies except for the odd anecdote. It's ALL coming back and I'm really scared. I'm just panicking.

@eal that sounds very reassuring to know what to expect, although possibly, even more reassuring that baby has reassessed x

DeadDoorpost · 14/04/2019 17:24

pseudo Poundland do the packs of 3 dipsticks for £1 😉 I've only ever had a clear result on the cheap ones. The Clearblue one I got told me I wasn't pregnant. Stupid digital test...
