Antibiotics in pregnancy...wisdom tooth infection :(

Hi guys

It's looking increasing like I'm going to need Antibiotics and I'm nearly 19 weeks pregnant.

Had anyone else been on antibiotics during pregnancy? I'm absolutely petrified. I don't even take paracetamol :(

I've got a suspected wisdom tooth infection. I had one about 3 years ago and it was horrendous. It's not got to that level...but it's getting worse. I've got an dental appointment later today and I'm just so nervous. I don't want to leave it as obviously the pain is becoming unbearable.

Just looking for support and experiences :(

Tia

I had to have antibiotics at about 9 weeks. I had a severe sinus infection. My little girl is fine. You won't be prescribed them if not necessary or harmful to your baby x

Oh you poor thing. Wisdom tooth pain/infection is just agony!!

They wouldn't give you antibiotics/pain killers that are unsafe. Although I wasn't pregnant when I had my infection (and I've had the wisdom teeth removed now!) my infection was horrendous but it only took 3 days on antibiotics to clear it up.
I know loads of people who have been on different types of antibiotics and painkillers in pregnancy though-none of them have had ANY adverse affects.

You're 19 weeks now, so out of the first trimester which is good. Please don't panic. And don't let yourself suffer!! Take care Thanks

Thank you for your replies. I really appreciate it. I'm such a nervous wreck, :(

What's so odd is when I eat it feels better?

Honestly my appointment can't come quick enough x

I had the same worry. I was on 3 weeks of a very high dose antibiotic for suspected Lyme disease. I worried so much about taking them but the risk of not having them was too high. I have a perfectly healthy baby boy. Please don't worry x

You won't be prescribed antibiotics that are unsafe in pregnancy, as long as the GP/dentist is aware. Antibiotics should do no harm to you or your baby and often the infection that's been brewing can be far more damaging.

Have a look on the BUMPS website for reassurance

Hiphopopotamous · 07/02/2019 11:42

As PP said, the Bumps website is excellent
www.medicinesinpregnancy.org

Take some paracetamol - you'll need it.
After 12 weeks your baby has all its organs/limbs etc so drugs taken matter a bit less. You'll probably end up with amoxicillin since it's very safe in pregnancy.

Thank you for that, going to check the website out, didn't even know about it!
