I've, very recently, discovered I am pregnant with number three. This is hugely unexpected and means there will be a 7 year age gap between the baby and my next youngest child.

Anyway, I lived in the central belt when previously pregnant but I now live in the Highlands and I think the antenatal care might be a bit different.

I have a GP appointment on Friday anyway so I'll organise booking in then but I wondered if anyone could tell me if you get one or two scans with NHS Highland and when they are please?

I'm not in Inverness but would we need to travel to Raigmore for scans or would they take place at our local hospital?

Thanks for your help!

Congratulations!!! Have a watch of the highland midwife I think it's either on BBC or channel 5! It's a great watch!

Not in NHS Highland for antenatal care myself but pretty sure scans are 12 and 20 weeks as elsewhere in Scotland.

Not sure which your local hospital is but imagine they may only scan you if they had local maternity cover on a permanent basis and which unfortunately I know has reduced of late in NHSH.

I'm NHS Grampian so not the same, but we have had routine scans at our local community hospital and haven't had to go into Aberdeen, so you might not necessarily need to travel to Raigmore if there's a community hospital with an ultrasound department nearer.
Fingers crossed!

They will do a 12 and a 20 week scan.
