Hello I am a first time mum and I'm overdue...I was due on the 02/02/19
I have been promised twice to have the sweep but each time it has come around they have cancelled.
They're leaving me until 19/02/19 to start induction.
I am very fed up and would like some advice on what to do until the 19.. Anything that helped you.. To induce Labour as I feel helpless.
TIA.

Gosh, I'm surprised they are leaving you to go 17 days overdue. I thought most hospitals tended to induce between 10 and 12 days overdue? Can you ask for an earlier induction?

BadBadBeans · 06/02/2019 20:04

Also... I tried everything with my first. Vindaloo, pineapple, walking, sex. Nothing worked! I was induced when he was 12 days overdue. Good luck - hope you don't have to wait that long! X

I have asked for the sweep 2 times and they have cancled also I have tried everything but nothing seems to work.... I know they're leaving me such a long time I don't know what to do.

Are you in the UK?

BadBadBeans · 06/02/2019 20:26

I ask because the NHS website says ALL women should be offered induction by the time they are 14 days overdue! See here: www.nhs.uk/conditions/pregnancy-and-baby/induction-labour/#why-you-might-be-induced

So I can't see why they would allow you to go three days past that!

Hand expressing can help stimulate labour.

Are you having any monitoring between now and your induction?

megandilling123 · 06/02/2019 20:34

They said due to the amount of patients they chose that date... But could be a few days before, also no I'm having nothing now.

don't bother with pineapples... I ate so much it left me with mouth sores.
my midwife was of the opinion that only sex helps bring baby along.. and best if can be a relaxed, calm, content and feeling 'safe' so body if ready would start... but that hand expressing helps some....

I was fed up and went for induction. It was pretty intense, I wish I'd held out a bit longer!
I tried everything to get going including 2 sweeps but no joy. I'd recommend doing things to keep busy so you don't feel fed up. Cinema, crafts, batch cooking some meals for after babies arrival?
Congratulations and good luck! X

I had my baby on Friday/Saturday.

Was booked for an induction at 42 weeks (Saturday). Went in for monitoring and pre induction checks on Friday and was found to already be 2-3 cms.

They asked if I’d accept a sweep which I’d declined until that point. I took it as a last resort pre induction.

Ended up not needing the induction after all!

I tried everything, dates, raspberry leaf tea, dates, sex, 2 sweeps, e.t.c. and nothing worked. HOWEVER, I decided to give acupuncture a go, more for a distraction and curiosity because Id never done it before.
Anyway it was enjoyable and the lady who did it specialised in pregnancy and said the treatment helps release blockages in the body which may allow labour to come on. The very next morning my waters went! Could have been a co-incidence but maybe worth a try? If anything it really relaxed my whole body!
I was 10 days overdue.
