Hi,

I’m currently 8 weeks pregnant and thoughts are coming round to telling work etc. after the 12 week scan.

I’ve been with my employer 8 months (will have been there 9 months when I announce pregnancy). I’m on a two year fixed term contact so will be leaving 15 months into the contract to have baby.

I feel awful! I hate causing any stress/paperwork/drama. Can anyone offer me any reassurance. Does it seem really cheeky how quickly I’ve got pregnant Hmm

Thanks lovely mumsnetters x

You are pregnant. Not leaving to go to a rival firm and stealing all their clients. They'll get over it. You can't pause the big things in life to fit with a job. Congratulations!

I got a new job then fell pregnant as a surprise 6 months later and never went back! It happens, you'll only be off for a few months it's not the end of the world.
There will always be a few comments but ignore them! No one can tell you when to have a baby.

This is all making me feel better - thanks all. It’s so tough sometimes! Xx

I’d been with my employer a similar amount of time but on a permanent contract. I was really nervous and waited until 15 weeks, but it was absolutely fine. It’s not ideal for them given other things happening with the team but no one gave me any vibes about this at all. It can be better than you thought!

I got a new job. My total dream job.

I fell pregnant while waiting for my background check!

I told my work not long after I started and they were fantastic! Please don't worry.

DerelictWreck · 06/02/2019 20:10

Bear in mind you don't have to tell them at 12 weeks?

I assume you won't be going back given your contract though, so I suppose the longer they know the more time they have to replace you.

I started a job in September, was pregnant by November/December. Somewhat unexpected and when having more children came up in office conversation a few weeks before had very firmly insisted I would be waiting til DC1 was in school...

I was there for a year, then off for a year!

I went to a job interview not knowing I was pregnant. When I found out I had to tell them (before I'd even started work). I only did 16 weeks working there before I was off on maternity leave (took 6 months) and they were fine about it. Most (all?) employers have insurance for covering maternity leaves etc. And it's illegal to treat you negatively anyway. What's the worst that they can say?!

Congratulations 👏👏👏

I started new job on Monday and I'm 1p weeks pregnant. I have my scan next week and will tell them after that. I have 6 weeks annual leave to take and so basically I'll be there 6 months then be off a year. I am it looking firward to telling them but fuck it, I'm having a baby!

Congrats x

No one knows how your employer will behave and some don’t handle this as they should. But you’re pregnant now and you do have to tell them eventually and put your trust in the lap of the gods as it were. What will be will be. I got pregnant 7 months into a new job. A job I had been desperate to get and which I really enjoyed. I went off for 12 months mat leave after I’d been there 16 months. It was fine. They were actually super lovely about it. The job role changed quite a bit while I was off and I’ve recently gone back to a similar but not identical role that I’m enjoying even more. It’s been fine.

Was also fixed term 3 year contract

I've recently found out I am expecting and only started my job in October. I'm half dreading telling them, but my boss is always asking about if I want more kids so I think in the back of his mind he knows at some point it will happen. Can't put life on hold.
