If you ovulated late, do you still count from your last period?

After a miscarriage in the summer, I have unfortunately turned into a worrier this time round!

Basically, my last period started Christmas day 2018 and I think I ovulated 13/01/2019 which was 19 days afterwards. Today, based on the date of my last period, I would be 6 weeks, 1 day but from when I think I ovulated, I would be 5 weeks and 3 days. Firstly, is this right?

I had some bleeding on Monday so I was given a blood test and scan today. My HCG level was 12,500 which they said was quite high. However, the fetal pole (no heartbeat) was measuring 1.7mm which they said was on the small side. They weren't too concerned and I'm going back in 2 weeks.

I was just wondering if anyone could tell me if I'm likely to be 6 weeks, 1 day or 5 weeks, 3 days based on the above?

Probably 5w3d. I ovulated 28 days into my cycle and my 12 week 6 day scan revealed I was actually 11 weeks based on the foetus.

Thank you! I was hoping that was the case.

I was tracking ovulation and knew I’d ovulated late - I put a later LP date three days later into the apps but the NHS still went on actual LP, until the 12 week dating scan. Then they placed me right in the middle of the difference!

Pressed too soon. Which is to say, if you know when you Od then don’t be too worried & go on your dates until you are told your due date. Good luck

I had a scan at 8 weeks in EPU. (Dated at that point from LMP). The sonographer said I was actually 7+5 by his estimation, which was accurate to the day at the 12 week scan. I gave this adjusted date at my booking in appointment at 10 weeks (so before the 12 week scan) and everything was dated from that from there on. Hope that helps/makes sense

Exactly the same happened to me, miscarriage, bleeding and early scan that confirmed that I was right and the LMP dates were wrong. All was fine two weeks later at the rescan.

Ah yes. Thank you! I didn't mention it at the time. It was just afterwards when I was thinking about the measurement being small that it clicked. I wasn't sure if it was just me being hopeful though! Fingers crossed at my next appointment I will be 7w3d and all will be good. I'll mention it to them then too though.

I'm 16 weeks pregnant at the moment and went to my first scan thinking I was 6 and a half weeks, could see sac, yolk and no foetal pole - two weeks later I measured 7+4 which made sense based on my ovulation dates, I'm now officially a week behind my LMP date based on scans etc, but that matches my ovulation dates, once you get passed a certain point they'll go by your dating scan dates anyway and it won't matter so much! I had a MMC in my last pregnancy and my early scans were a week behind even taking my adapted dates into account so I wouldn't worry given your dates 'make sense'.

Angelmiracle · 06/02/2019 21:12

Yes you're right. I ovulated day 21! Scan pushed EDD back one week which ties in with ovulation.

Just thought I'd do a little update in case anyone reads this in the future... I had my second scan today exactly two weeks after the first. I am measuring 7w3d now which means I was right about my ovulation date. Heartbeat was strong and I am absolutely over the moon!

Lovely news - as I said before I had a similar outcome after a loss and we found out yesterday we are having a little girl, I didn't have any more bleeding and touch wood everything is very textbook so far, good luck op :)
