Pregnant before first postpartum period - anyone?

Just wondering if anyone has been in this situation?

I haven’t tested but have a little thought at the back of my mind that I could be. My bf baby was feeding all through the night until quite recently (he’s 9 months), I’ve not had a period since he was born, but then he suddenly started sleeping better and we had a one off nice evening and weren’t as careful as we should have been. Obviously the likelihood of conceiving must be pretty slim, but just wondered if this has happened to anyone else?

Yes op and in almost exactly same circumstances as you’ve described above. DC2 is now 9.... it came as a huge shock at the time but honestly it all worked out for the best and I wouldn’t have it any other way Flowers

My friend just had a baby who was conceived with the lucky egg before her periods came back. She had actually stopped breastfeeding by then maybe at six months. It was a proper little miracle baby because she'd really struggled to get pregnant with the previous child.

It happened to me twice Grin. Breastfeeding most definitely is not a form of contraception! I got pregnant with DC3 when DC2 was 5 months old and still EBF. Was on the pill and doing back to back packs so hadn’t had a period at all. It was a real shock when I found out.

Guessing this happened to my parents as there's only 18mo between me and my bro!

Ok maybe should do a test...I’ve had strong cramps for 5-6 days now and kept thinking my period was coming back but no sign. 😬

I was breastfeeding and had not had a period. When my son was 12 weeks old I fell pregnant again. It’s an old wives tale that you won’t get pregnant while breast feeding.

reallybadidea · 17/02/2019 09:12

It's not an old wives tales that breastfeeding acts as a contraceptive (Google lactational amenorrhea) BUT you have to follow certain rules and one of them is that it is only effective for the first 6 months!

You need to POAS. We've got two children with 15 months between them. It was hard work but we all survived.

I was pregnant again 3 months after my first and was fully breastfeeding. I lost baby at 12 weeks, fell pregnant again immediately, lost again at 12 weeks, fell pregnant again immediately and after all that only had a 20 month gap between first 2. My mother did warn me not to rely on breastfeeding as a contraceptive as there is only 12 months between.y brother and I.
