Hi all, I really need some advice. This is my 3rd DC. Monday evening I came home from work feeling nauseous and had stomach cramps. Was sick and couldn’t manage much physically. Tuesday morning was vomiting with the contents of an empty stomach went into work and was sent home because I wasn’t well enough. At home I continued vomiting unable to eat or keep water down. Bad period pain type cramps, in the evening I developed a bit of diarrhoea. This morning I have diarrhoea but reduced cramps. The cramps are higher up at the top of my bump.
My gut says it’s not labour but I think my work think it is and are urging me to take my mat leave early something i’d prefer not to. I want to clarify whether it is a bug or not but don’t want to waste GP or MW time. Plus my assessment unit is a bit of a distance away! Any suggestions. I work in a school and there has been a fair amount of absences due to sickness and chicken pox currently just for a bit of a background.

Can't really answer your question but I'm concerned that you went to work (?in a school) whilst vomiting. Stay home!
Work can only make you start mat leave if your illness is pregnancy-related. At the moment, it's ok to assume you 'just' have a bug. Stay hydrated (frequent small sips of water) and rest. Hope you feel better soon!

Thanks for your response. I know I wouldn’t usually and always tell people off for being martyrs just felt like I could brave it and absences is a big issue at the moment. (I sound ridiculous I know!)

I had the bug and it made me go into labour so could be worth getting checked

anxiousbundle · 06/02/2019 13:14

@Dandelionrarrrr why the f would you go into work whilst vomiting? Ever heard of the 48hr guideline?

Hopefully you'll go into labour otherwise a lot of your colleagues are potentially going to be feeling like shit soon enough.

I hate people like you, I have a low immune system and already suffer from chronic fatigue, I don't need some idiot coming in with a potential stomach bug to pass it on to me! (Which will take me 3x longer to recover from!)

Charming.
Well I thought my vomiting may have been caused by pain caused by cramps. Which it still could have been the actual cause of it. I have vomited because of the pain of labour many times.

Sorry you have a low immune system.

Call your midwife. It's what they're there for, you're not wasting their time.

ReaganSomerset · 06/02/2019 13:27

Crosspost.

anxiousbundle · 06/02/2019 13:27

@Dandelionrarrrr Not sure if the Gp is the best route either? Do you have any actual signs of labour (aside from the vomiting/cramps?) it could just be your body prepping for the next few weeks.

Don't think they'll appreciate someone with a potential bug down at the doctors eitherConfused

Just ask your GP to give you a call or call your midwife?

iMatter · 06/02/2019 13:28

Good luck OP.

However, going into work (in a school!) when you've been vomiting isn't being a martyr. It's irresponsible.

I would agree with you, I have a mw app tomorrow which I tried to change to today- no luck.

I asked the receptionist on the phone if I could get a call back, but they gave me an appointment. I told them all the info

I'm 36w today and last Thursday started experiencing horrific stomach pains and what I thought was the norovirus! Turns out it had sepsis and acidosis and if id left it any longer who knows what would have happened!! It was touch and go whilst waiting for a diagnosis and there was talks of an emergency section! Get checked out!!
