Hi all, I am 8wks today and 2 days ago had a horrible IBS flare up. I dont get them too often but when I do, oh boy do I know about it. Does anyone know if pregnancy can affect IBS?
I am also concerned (hopefully someone will tell me I'm over-reacting) this flare up has harmed my pregnancy. The flare up was agonisingly painful and, why I didn't have any vaginal bleeding, what little bump I had has now disappeared and my boobs are nowhere near as sore. I have my first midwife appointment tomorrow so will talk to her but quite concerned right now

My IBS was terrible in the first trimester. Oddly enough though my usual triggers didn't seem to affect me as much, but loads of new things did! I had quite bad morning sickness too which didn't help either.

Apparently it's very common, just going for walks and peppermint tea were the only things I was recommended (couldn't take my usual buscopan). Plus I had plenty of laxatives for when I needed them.
I definitely understand about the pain. I was in absolute agony with it.

Midwife or doctor didn't appear concerned in relation to the pregnancy, they just reassured me that it was pretty common.

Usually IBS disappears when pregnant. So not had one for years as keep having children. I am sorry it's the opposite for you. I have days where I am constipated but no pains

I have IBS too and pregnancy has not made it any better, just the same really. I've also thought several times that my bump had appeared, only to lose it again after a visit to the loo... Grin At 8 weeks bloating is very normal, and boob pain comes and goes, so I don't think you have anything to worry about.
