So I'm 37 weeks and onto my 3rd. But my other 2 were induced at hospital at 36 weeks. So thus is the furthest I've gone and on my own....just curious as to how everyone else's labours started?? How far along were you...what no baby were you on...how did it feel??

I was 9 days overdue, had been to see my midwife after I thought my waters were leaking. She agreed that they were.
She did a second stretch and sweep and said I was 5-6cm dilated (id had no pain at this point).
Spent the rest of the day doing some last minute shopping and went for a walk with my step daughter.

Put my step daughter down to bed at around 7pm. Jumped into the bath with a slightly sore back. Started having contractions about 20 minutes later. Not at all painful at first, they just felt ‘odd’ but they very quickly ramped up. I just remember that very quickly I was getting no break from contractions. It felt constant. I was sat on the loo and it felt a bit as though I had a really bad tummy. Like the kind of cramps you get when you’ve got diarrhoea but worse. Also had a lot of pain in my back! Got to the hospital around 9:30pm DD was born at 1:45am

Dc1 I was 40+6 period cramps for 15 minutes then started contracting every 2 minutes from the start. Felt very intense right from the beginning. Then after 30 minutes of contractions I emptied my bowel. Fully dilated in 3 hours.

Dc2 woke up contracting had 4 in 10 minutes. Rang babysitter and woke husband. Rushed to hospital, start to baby 2 hours 15 minutes. Contractions vvv intense thought I'd have baby in car, made it but only just. Scared until I made it to hospital and after that it was incredible and easy compared to dc1. 41+4

Angelmiracle · 03/02/2019 23:23

DC1 midwife had a poor attempt at a sweep 40+5 but said she felt baby's head. 24hrs later out walking strong period type cramps every 20mins then becoming contractions 5 hours later at 10mins apart.

Another 5 hours at home before going to delivery suite and I was 5cm. DS born at 41 weeks.

Mrsmummy90 · 03/02/2019 23:59

I was 38+6 and woke up with bad cramps. I tried to ignore them and go back to sleep but they were keeping me up. I thought that maybe I just needed the loo so I went and as soon as I sat on the toilet, I felt (and heard) a pop and my waters gushed.
I was in shock/scared/excited so I just kinda sat there and laughed hysterically for a minute or so and called my midwife lol.
I had my dd the next morning 😊

Mrsmummy90 · 04/02/2019 00:00

I forgot to say, he was DC1.
The cramps were manageable and nowhere near as bad as I was expecting. They didn't really get that intense until that night.

First baby my waters broke in the night at 35+5. Labour started later that day and DD was born 4 hours later. Second baby my waters broke in the night at 40+4. Labour started immediately after and DS was born 3 hours later.

Mummykaz90 · 04/02/2019 08:37

It's so interesting to see how everyone's labours started. I really wanted mine to start soon but now I really don't. ...my eldest came bk from his dad's feeling sick. Now he has diarrhoea too. Now my youngest has got it as well. And my step daughter. So all 3 of them throwing up and shits. Now my dp feels dodgy too. 😣 I could just cry for it to happen right now when I could literally pop at anytime

I was 6 days overdue and I’d had 2 sweeps which hadn’t really done much. But I'd been having irregular Braxton Hicks on and off for around 2 weeks, which would become quite intense but ultimately amount to nothing. I’d also had numerous shows.

At about 19:30, I started with mild backache and tightenings. This felt different somehow...I think because they were actually very regular. I couldn’t get comfy anywhere and was actually feeling quite agitated, pacing around the kitchen and having to lean over the worktop and breathe through each tightening. They weren’t painful but I had to concentrate on them.

At around 9pm I got in the bath and we called the midwife (homebirth). She arrived about half an hour later and examined me and I was 2-3cm dilated. My waters went at 11pm and things got much more intense then. He was born at 0830 the following morning. Oh and he was my first baby Smile

Ccec · 04/02/2019 09:09

I was 37 weeks, a couple of days shy of 38 i got up one morning as usual at 7.30 as i was going to uni and when i sat on the toilet instead of having a wee, my waters broke instead lol. It took me a moment to realise what had happened as it just seemed to come out of nowhere. I then had the odd period pain every hour or so throughout the day (which i then realised were the beginnings of contractions) that got worse by about 11 that evening so i asked my mum to take me into hospital. We got there just before midnight and they examined me and said i was only 1-2cm and wanted to send me home which i refused to do. I then had a bath at the hospital, went to the toilet and lost my mucus plug and then my son was born at 2.30. Me and my mum were very glad that i never went home, or he most likely would have been born in the back of her car on the way back to hospital. I'm now nearly 30 weeks pregnant and interested to see how this one compares :)

I was 40 + 8 and had already had 2 unsuccessful sweeps and was trying all old wives tales to get labour going. I decided to get acupuncture to relax me and see if it helped. Got it on the Monday then Tuesday morning when I went shopping I felt like I was having heavy discharge but as the day went on it was getting heavier. Rang midwife and went to hospital where they confirmed my waters had broke. Sent me home again to see if contractions would start and they did in the early hours of Wednesday morning. Had tens machine at home and laboured as much as I could stand before going to hospital at 11am and was 5cm by this point.
In labour all that day and throughout Wednesday night. Got to 10cm and pushed for 3 hours before they realised DS head was lodged sideways in my pelvis so had to have EMCS and DS was born 7.17am Thursday morning. It was a long few days!! Cant say if the acupuncture helped start my labour or if it was just a coincidence.

Pregnant with DC2 and still havent made my mind up whether to have ELCS or VBAC.

Gardenhappy4 · 04/02/2019 09:24

Ah sorry everyone is poorly at the minute OP X

I was induced with no.1.

No.2 I had a cold for the past week, then night before I had really strong Braxton Hicks but they went when I went to bed. The following day I just felt exhausted more than usual and in the evening my waters went! Within a few hours contractions started and just after midnight she arrived! Very quick.

I have short labours, first just under 3 hours, second under 2!
Think number 3 would just fly out when he/she was ready (but we're sticking with the 2 children).

Gardenhappy4 · 04/02/2019 09:25

Forgot to say she came bang on 40 weeks

cja06 · 04/02/2019 09:32

I was 11 days overdue. Woke up at 1am with period type pains and cramps... started taking my breath away which is when I realised I was having contractions. In hospital at about 7am, daughter born around 3pm.

boodles101 · 04/02/2019 12:28

I was 41+1 woken about midnight to a strange sensation and felt a bit wet. Thought maybe I had wet myself. Went to the toilet and noticed white bits in my underwear and didn't smell of wee. Thought maybe it was my waters but there wasn't loads so wasn't really sure. Went back to bed and within a few mins the contractions started, very intense and every 4 mins from the off. Rang hospital and they wanted to confirm if waters had gone to headed in. Got there and they had broken, was already at 4cm. Then fully dilated by 4am. Didn't get any urges to push and things then started to slow down, ended up on a drip to start things again.

Endofrelationship · 04/02/2019 13:38

38+1 and 37+4 both times started with waters breaking after I'd been in bed for an hour. Looked like I'd thrown a bucket of water over myself! Both times it was then 2 hours until contractions started. That's where the similarities ended though!

Keisha1986 · 04/02/2019 13:59

Hi thanks for replying, how do i make my own feed? X

Buffy81 · 04/02/2019 15:10

With DS1, arrived 40+3.The day before was having some discomfort so went in to town with DH as we had to go and collect his suit for his DBrothers wedding as he was best man.
That night, started to get the feeling that I wanted to push. Had a bath which didnt help all that much due to lack of hot water. Rang the hospital, and they said that as it was my first, its my pelvis doing things that it not had to do before as I was able to talk through my contractions and that was about 10:00pm. I ran them again at about 2:15am and they say said, give it 30 mins, i things don't improve, give us another ring. Rang them again at 3:00am By the time I got to the hospital and in to a delivery room, it was nearly 4:00am and I was 9cm gone

With DS2, went in at 40 weeks as between 10:00-14:00 was having a lot of movement and some cramps. Also had a strong feeling that I had my show earlier on in the day. Got to the hospital about 4:00am. They hooked me up to the heart monitors to observe him for a while and they picked him that his heart rate was decreasing every so often. After a couple of hours, they decided that they were going to induce me seeing as it was my due date. After 10hrs of not getting anywhere despite my having contractions, I never got past 3cm even in different positions and having the drip. I ended up having a emergency c section and at 9:10pm he was born

Waters went AM, went in the be checked, i then went for a few walks (waddles) during the day to get things moving along, still took all afternoon/evening for the contraction to start, she was born the next day on her due date

TwittleBee · 04/02/2019 15:48

That is some serious bad timing! I hope that you manage to hold on just until the sickness clears from everyone!

For me my early labour started the week before - I was getting some serious BHs / Contractions and had lost my plug etc.

At 36+5 I was determined to have a proper nice date afternoon with DH. Contractions kept stopping me in my tracks but they didnt become regular and were far apart. That night, before DH went on his night shift I told him to keep his phone on loud as I had a feeling something is gonna happen soon.

Sure enough that night my waters broke in bed. Contractions certainly ramped up but didn't become regular, actually they never did...

SequinsDress · 04/02/2019 16:42

DC1 38+6 - waters broke, very mild/sporadic contractions over the following 24hrs, then was put on the drip to speed things up (due to risk of infection from PROM).

DC2 39+6 - waters broke in bed, contractions started almost straight away, baby born less than six hours later.
