Had my first midwife appointment this week and my bmi is 33.1. Is it possible and safe to try and maintain or lose weight during the rest of my pregnancy?

I'm afraid if I show up to slimming world etc ill be told I can't join because I'm pregnant or will ask for doctor note or something?

I believe you can join SW when pregnant. Have a look at their website.

Good luck!

You can do sw when pregnant but they ask you to get something signed by your midwife so they can keep an eye on your weight. They don’t want you to lose too much (I think it was more than 4lb a week) but it was a couple of years ago I did it. I’d go along and speak to the consultant at sw and ask them for the forms and advice etc

I've done SW, joined when I found out I had a high BMI. Lost 8lb in first 2 weeks so had to get it signed by my midwife to say she was happy for me to continue!! I lost a stone by 20 weeks but put 5lb back on over Christmas (3 days off plan...my body literally stores cheese in every possible place haha). Now 26 weeks and still 9.5lb down from where I started at 13 weeks. So yes it's possible but you may need a signature or 2 from the midwife xx

Just to say my BMI at booking in was 40. I gained approx 2 stone during my pregnancy and it all went immediately after the birth. Eat healthily and enjoy your pregnancy Smile

Thanks everyone

@orangejuicer ill try your idea for a few weeks and see how I go

You can eat healthily, and cut out sugars, fatty foods etc.

You could aim not to gain, that would be a start. Make sure you get plenty calcium and don't starve yourself
