Brown blood early pregnancy

Hi, I’m new to this and thought I would give it a go as I really could do with some advice and some support. So here is my story, on the 19th of dec I had my last period. This was followed by a 2 day bleed which I thought was my next period on 19th of jan. my periods usually last 4/5 days so decided to do a pregnancy test. This was negative. On the 29th of January I noticed some light brown discharge when I wiped after going to the toilet so decided to do another test. This came back positive. I followed it up by doing another the following day and the positive line was darker. I still had the brown blood. It concerned me so I went to my doctor who advised that it was implantation and prob would go away in the next few weeks. I still felt concerned and so on the 1st of feb I decided to go to the early pregnancy unit as I was still bleeding this discharge/ dark blood and at this point it was heavier than when I first noticed it but still classed as light. The midwife on there suggested it was old blood coming out my system. I proceeded to see a doctor who did an exam of my cervix and sent some swabs off incase of infection. He told me that it was most likely a miscarriage which devestated me. He was very abrupt and didn’t diverge on to if this could be something else. I went for a scan where they couldn’t find a sac but saw thickening of my lining suggesting pregnancy and everything else looked okay. The sono said it was either two early to tell or I was miscarrying. They took some blood to use as a base line for my hcg levels. In the last 24 hours I’ve developed pretty sore boobs and I will go back tomorrow to do more bloods. Has anyone had an experience of this? I’m freaking out. Thanks xx

I had brown blood at about 5-7 weeks pregnant with DS1 - the doctor I spoke to was similarly abrupt and said I'd have to wait and see. I managed to get a scan at the EPU and though they warned me they'd probably not be able to see anything, they could (I was 6+2 then). The bleeding settled down over the next couple of week, but there wasn't loads of it, just when I wiped really. Difficult though it is, there is nothing you can do but wait. I hope it's good news for you xx

Thanks for your response and I’m glad it worked out for you. I guess I’m just panicking as I have used a pad in the last day or so to find a couple of drops on there. It’s just so dark which shocks me. Fingers crossed I get some better news tomorrow x

I think if it's dark it's likely to be old blood rather than fresh blood, which is good. Try to rest and maybe do something to occupy your mind - it's impossible I know, I was going out of my mind with worry and couldn't think of anything else. Fingers crossed for good news tomorrow xx

Thanks it’s a comfort to hear I’m not on my own. At times there does seem to be more of it than others but time will tell x

How did your appointment go?

Claire78564 · 04/02/2019 17:31

Thanks for asking :( unfortunately I have had a miscarriage, hcg hormones have decreased but the bleeding has stopped so I’m hopeful we can catch again pretty quickly. Off to the hospital tomorrow for another blood test and we will go from there xx
