Going for 3rd anomaly scan?

Hi there

I am coming up for 23 weeks pregnant with my 2nd baby. I had my 20 week anomaly scan last Monday and the baby was upside down and 'scrunched up' so they couldn't get a good look at the heart. I went back today for a 2nd attempt and the baby was in an even worse position. 3 sonogrophers tried to see the heart and tried 2 different machines and they all had to give up eventually. Tried the works - ridiculous dancing, shoogling, walking etc.

So I'm booked in for a 3rd attempt next Monday with the doctor this time.

I just wondered if anyone has gone on to have a 3rd scan like this and if they still didn't manage to do all the checks? Did they keep trying or did they have to give up? Baby is very active at night so not concerned about movement in general.

Thanks

Have you tried being on all 4s / yoga / ball bouncing at home to get baby in a better position?

Hope they get it this time for you!

This nearly happened to me although luckily baby finally moved at the end of the second scan enough for them to see the heart. I was told that if it hadn’t worked on the second attempt they would send me to a bigger hospital and I would be kept there all day with them trying intermittently to see the baby’s heart. So I don’t think they will just give up.

Try drinking some lucozade (or something sugary) before you go in too - it will move more then

Thanks ladies, I will try doing some yoga type moves and drinking lucozade next time. My luck will probably have the baby just go from good position to bad position! I hope they keep me there until they get it seen (provided I get a babysitter - 4 year old was with me today and very much bored).

My second baby was all scrunched up & upside down so they literally couldn’t do any of the checks, sent me away for a drink & something to eat but she was still not having it. I went back 10 days later and this time she was too wriggly, they just about managed to do all the checks they needed but would’ve been happy for me to come back again if necessary. Sure they won’t give up on you if yours is still in the wrong position, definitely worth trying some exercises to get it to shift & have some orange juice or something sweet just before the scan. Fingers crossed they behave this time!

My local hospital had a policy to stop after two anomaly scans, they just refused to do a third but I was in the position where there was one measurement they just couldn’t get at either of the anomaly scans I had. He was born and all was fine ftr but it was concerning at the time.
