When did you feel the first kicks?

I'm 17+5 and feeling distinctly unpregnant - apart from crying at anything and everything.

I have my scan in 2 weeks and pretty nervous, even though I heard the heartbeat at 16 weeks.

I know it doesn't always happen this early, but I'd love to feel my first kicks to feel that connection and know my baby is alive and well in there. Just wondering when you all first felt this?

Think I properly knew they were kicks around. 20 weeks. When I looked back though I had felt them around 18-19 weeks but it literally feels like tickly butterflies. You'd probably put it down to something else not realising that it was the first flutters of a kick.

sh13 · 29/01/2019 22:52

I felt small flutters from 16 week couldn’t be definite they were baby though as my first , and at 18 weeks I felt a big kick , my partner felt this 19-20 weeks . Sure you’ll feel it soon it’s lovely although I’m sure i won’t think that so much in the third tri x

sh13 · 29/01/2019 22:54

Oh an it’s so mild to begin with you just might not be noticing it x

PBobs · 30/01/2019 00:21

Same as sh13. Mine is very particular about when the flutters and pokes come though. Loves the car in particular. And for a bit after a meal. But mostly in the car on the way to and from work.

I think I was about 18 weeks. It used to feel like bubbles popping to me!

Heyha · 30/01/2019 20:33

Twitchy feelings at 17-18 weeks now getting definite little prods at 20 weeks. Not managed to get DP to feel one yet but hopefully won't be long!

Diane0313 · 30/01/2019 20:47

I'm in the same boat and this is my third love I used to feel it move but not anymore the baby is fine as heard the heart beat on Monday, and I find out what it is next Thursday but baby doesn't move at all anymore xx

13 weeks. Very early. Think due to the position of the placenta. Plus my baby was HUGE

HayleyHaystack · 30/01/2019 21:02

I hear ya @rmmarieclaire - I actually had another scan 2 weeks ago. I’m 17+6. Have you started to show? Have you put on weight? I felt nothing until I saw I had put on almost a stone. There’s prob other things that you just haven’t noticed Flowers

Lou0219 · 30/01/2019 22:18

17 wks I felt light movements but by 20 weeks it was obvious movements x

genome · 30/01/2019 22:21

With my first 17 weeks, my second I could feel her occasionally from 12 weeks (she was a very active baby!) and my third from 18 weeks (anterior placenta).

TokenGinger · 30/01/2019 22:29

I'm 21+5 and still haven't felt any kicks. Sonographer last week assured me that it's usual to not feel anything in first pregnancies until 24 weeks. Or rather, I'll be confusing it with wind at this point but by 24 weeks I'll be able to tell that it's a kick rather than wind.

She explained position of the placenta plays a part. If the placenta is at the front, baby is kicking that rather than you, so you also don't feel much.

HarrietB90 · 30/01/2019 22:36

I was feeling exactly the same @rmarieclaire - the time between 16 week heart beat and 20 week scan feels like forever and I was desperate to know my baby was ok in there. I felt my first movement properly at 18 weeks but it was strange not having felt anything before and I wasn’t quite sure if I was imagining it or not!!

By 20 weeks it was more definite kicks, and from about 22 weeks they got strong enough so other people could feel her too. Now at 27 weeks she even kicks the midwife away when she’s trying to do the heartbeat monitor!

Earlier on I noticed more movement when I was lying quietly on my side but I think everyone is different - some babies respond more to music or when you drink something cold!

I hope you feel your first kicks soon - I’m sure they’re just practising their karate kicks in there Smile

ArchbishopOfBanterbury · 30/01/2019 22:40

Nothing until 22 weeks. Not strong enough for others to feel until 26 weeks.

PRoseLegend · 31/01/2019 02:44

17 weeks for me, I felt little flutters, so I wasn't sure they were proper kicks yet. They progressively got stronger as baby got bigger. If you're feeling rhythmic "kicks" in the 3rd trimester it's actually probably hiccups!

Justus22 · 31/01/2019 07:01

NHS and medical professionals tell you it's possible to feel baby during 2nd pregnancy from 16 weeks and I always worried too as I have big babies, very active on scans too and have never felt a thing before 18 weeks besides wind, but that is what I think it feels like at first 😂. My second I remember being later than 18 weeks and I was panicked but I it taught me not to worry too much so early as all was fine on scan. Xx

About 19 weeks
