Strange One - Early Scan in Bermuda

As the title says, I need to book an early pregnancy scan in Bermuda as we are off there on holiday in a week’s time.

I wonder if anyone knows the country - specifically the capital and can recommend somewhere.

Thanks in advance.

Why do you need an early scan? How long are you going for?

Is it not just worth waiting until you get back?

Rememberallball · 28/01/2019 08:38

I need an early scan as it’s an ivf pregnancy and ivf consultant requested scan at 20 days post positive beta hCG test (that was done last Wednesday at 7dp5dt so scan requested for 12th February). Blood results were high so indicative of multiple pregnancy. We are 4+4 today and go away at 5+5. Away for 5 weeks so will be 10+5 on our return.

Going to GP surgery today as also need to book in for 3 more lots of blood tests before we go away and need to speak to GP about midwife referral - also because of length of time we’re away.

Lastly, we are not solely in Bermuda, we are travelling for the 5 weeks so have to try and fit the scan in around my travels.

Is there anywhere else you will be around that time that people may be able to advise on? I assume you have health/travel insurance? Do they have a suggested provider in Bermuda and other places you could use? Ours have hospitals they work with in different countries. I've just looked on our provider for you and in Bermuda their healthcare provider there is:

KING EDWARD VII MEMORIAL HOSPITAL,
7 Point Finger Road
PAGET, DV 04
BERMUDA
Ph: (441) 236 2345

Our insurance is a massive company. Very established internationally. It's their area of expertise. In my field if they're your insurer you're on to a good thing as we're all overseas. I'd trust their judgement but obviously cannot comment on this particular hospital.

Excellent healthcare facilities in Bermuda, although for certain specialities people have to fly to the US. Be warned - all very expensive.

Thank you. Other posts of call in Caribbean are Bahamas, Grand Turk, Barbados, St Lucia and St Martin. Then we’re also in the US in Bew Orleans, Miami, Key West and Port Canaveral. Only asked about Bermuda as we’re there on the ‘right dates’!!

Sorry for the derail but did you find that all of those countries are zika free now? We want a Caribbean break but struggling to get a clear answer on some of those countries. It sounds like an amazing trip though and I'm super jealous!

Do you have health insurance? If so I do think asking them is the way to go. If not, I second the PP. None of those locations are cheap for healthcare. Have you tried Googling private scans in Bermuda? Just wondering if there's anything online?

Rememberallball · 28/01/2019 11:48

No we don’t have private insurance and it wasn’t my plan to try and get the scan as part of a healthcare plan.

I was looking at one private provider which is similar (from what I’ve read on their website) to the UK company Ultrasound Direct - sorry if I wasn’t clear in my first post; I was wondering if anyone knew of similar company’s or could recommend as I know this website has international members. I have emailed the company and, if I hear nothing, I will call them later this week.

@mynameiscalypso, we took some advice and, as we are on a cruise ship and only ashore during the day, the risk is lower than holidaying ashore. So long as I wear a good mossie repellant I should be ok.
