Stabbing pain and numbness at top of bump - in agony

Hi, I’m wondering if anyone’s experienced (or experiencing) this as I don’t want to phone and bother the midwife unless absolutely necessary.

I’m 32 weeks pregnant with my 3rd baby and for the last 4/5 days have been experiencing a sharp stabbing feeling just under my left boob, at the top of my bump. Before the pain started the area had been numb and quite itchy for a few weeks but it didn’t really bother me. Last night and today the pain has been excruciating, I have a high pain threshold but today it’s been so sore it’s literally had me in tears most of the day. When I lie on my left side it hurts like hell so I barely slept last night.

Does it sound like muscle separation? I was training 5-6 days a week before I fell pregnant so did have strong abs. Also, I’m 37 and know muscle separation is more common in women over 35 so I’m thinking that’s what it could be? I’m carrying very low this time too and despite only gaining a stone so far, I was told at my last scan that the baby is measuring slightly bigger than average so I think it’s quite a big baby. Could these all be contributing factors to my muscles tearing/stretching/separating?

Anyone any tips on how to ease the pain? Heat pads, hot water bottles and paracetamol aren’t helping. I went to the pharmacist today for tiger balm but they wouldn’t sell me it as apparently it’s not safe to use when pregnant and said the only over the counter medicine I can take in paracetamol.

It’s making me miserable and not so good when i have 2 other kids to run about after 😩

If the pain is as bad as you describe then you need to 'bother' a medical professional. Now. Stop self diagnosing and putting the life of you and your unborn at risk waiting for internet quacks.

OP, when I had similar symptoms during pregnancy I ended up hospitalised for a suspected pulmonary embolism. You must go to the hospital. It might be muscular or nothing serious but it might not be.

You need to go and get checked. That level of pain needs to be investigated. I’m sure it’s nothing, but please go and get it checked.

Thanks @Vika1985 - I didn’t even think of anything like that. I have the most horrible varicose vein going from my thigh right down to under my knee, which has leaked all over the bottom of my leg - my leg is quite purple too but thought this was just due to pressure. I’ll give the hospital a call just to be on the safe side
