Heavy bleed - 9 weeks pregnant

Hello everyone

I guess I’m just looking for a bit of reassurance.... After 4 years of infertility and many many rounds of IVF, I’m finally 9 weeks pregnant. I had my booking appt on Tuesday, went I went to do the urine sample I noticed I was bleeding red blood so the MW booked me a scan appt for a couple of days time. A couple of hours later there was a massive gush of blood, enough to fill a sanitary pad, so I booked in for a private scan that evening. To my utter shock the baby was still there, wriggling his legs, and the sonographer said the bleed had come from my cervix and to expect a little more. Obviously we were overjoyed but since then I have scared myself again, wondering why I would get such a big bleed from my cervix, or as I’m still having a bit of brown blood worrying that it’ll just get too much for the baby to cope with (I realise that probably sounds silly!). We have been through so much to get here. Do you think I should book another scan to check? I’ve also had 2 scans before this one.

Thanks x

You poor thing. I had a bleed at 9 weeks following Ivf (clots etc) and am now nearly 36 weeks pregnant. I was abroad at the time and had a scan which showed heartbeat and all ok. I booked another private scan for about 10 days later and the lady was able to see that a bit of my placenta was lying over cervix and that's where bleed had come from. Do anything that will reassure you would be my advice. Hopefully all will be ok x

Also wondering are you on progesterone suppositories? I know I had a good but of brown spotting which they said was from them

Thanks for your response Blondienut, its so scary isnt it, I think I may have to book in for another scan too as I just feel so up and down with worry. Yes I’m taking cyclogest but using it rectally (sorry, TMI). Good to hear your pregnancy has continued safely, and wishing you lots of luck on meeting your little one x

I’ve started bleeding again, there is quite a lot of dark red/brown. Have booked in for another private scan tonight but I’m so scared Sad

Hope your scan has gone well OP ❤️

I hope everything goes fine. I also had bleeding in the early stages of my Ivf pregnancy and it is really scary. If you can, take a few days off work and rest as much as you can and after that try not to overdo things. That helped here. Best of luck!

Thanks for your comments, the scan showed baby was fine wriggling away but I also have a subchorionic hematoma which is pretty scary. Just have to hope it clears up by itself now xx

Hi Sunshine,

I have one of those as well. Mine was a 9 weeks too and scared the living daylights out of me! I'm now at 16 weeks and have been bleeding constantly but have just been told that is is finally going down!

I'm sure they have told you, but don't do any exercise at all or lifting; even if you don't think it is heavy, your body may have other ideas (like a load of wet washing or a 6 pinter of milk!)

Fingers crossed yours clears up nice and quickly and isn't causing you too much pain! xxx

Oh goodness this happened to me. A sort of gush like in a film and if you were watching the film you would say things don't happen like that.i went straight to A and E. Baby was fine and bled throughout. Was part of the cervix and I gave birth to a little darling girl. That was 20 years ago OP so things have improved massively now with maternity care. Try to relax and look forward to your little one. Btw I booked into a private scan almost monthly after that. The worry of us mums eh. Flowers

Hi
I’m new to this forum and I’m looking for sone guidance. After your heavy bleeding was everything ok at the scan ?? I was heavy this morning with a clot, the midwife advised she will scan me on Monday as it’s still too early. I’m around 5 week 4 days , ivf frozen cycle . Had bloods taken on Saturday which were 1300, scan on Sunday showed the sac and yolk , but this morning I got such a fright, I can’t seem to think anything else but the worst 😭any advice would be great xx
