At what gestation have you had an early scan?
I'm seven weeks today and debating whether to have one asap or wait it out a bit longer until I'm around nine weeks?

I had an early scan at epu 7 + 5. It was abdominal and could see baby and heartbeat although baby was like a wee blob. Had another at 10 weeks and could see a lot more.

I wouldn't. I see so many people having then and finding possible issues and they only seem to cause additional anxiety

I had my early scan at 7+3, had to be transvaginal because my bladder wasn’t full enough but I actually found it less uncomfortable and you could see way more. And could hear the heartbeat which was amazing.

Had an abdominal scan at 7+4 and personally found it reassuring to see baby's heart beat flickering away !

8 weeks and it was really clear!

Yep, I had one at 7+2 and although I did not see anything remotely baby-shaped, I did get to hear a little heart beating away which was amazing. I found it very reassuring to know that the pregnancy was not ectopic, there was only 1 in there, CRL matched with my dates, etc. It made it seem much more real and put my mind at ease (for a little while, at least...). Money well spent for me. You'll probably see more at 9 weeks, but I found those first weeks the most difficult since the 12 weeks scan seemed soooo far away! And mine was abdominal too by the way, although she did say she'd do TV if it was difficult to see anything. It seems private scans are more often abdominal, probably because they have more time.

Nine weeks and it looked like a kidney bean with legs. A very clear kidney bean with legs, mind.

5+5, 7+5, 8+6 then various others for health reasons. If it's just for reassurance, I would wait until closer to 12 weeks.

I had a private scan at 8 weeks for reassurance, as I'd had 2 miscarriages previously and was very anxious about the pregnancy. The sonographer found a large "cystic area" in the baby's head and, after conferring with a colleague, told me this was not a normal thing to see and I should prepare myself for the worst. I was offered a rescan 2 weeks later. It was the worst 2 weeks of my life waiting for that scan and assuming I would lose my baby. To my amazement, the rescan at 10 weeks showed absolutely no problems with the baby's head at all. All was fine with the head at the 12 and 20 week scans, and I'm now almost 32 weeks pregnant. After my experience, I would never recommend that anyone get an early private scan as I found it caused me only terrible anxiety and worry, all of which could have been avoided had I just had a bit more patience and waited for the 12 week scan.

I had IVF treatment and had a scan at the fertility clinic at 8 weeks, heard the heart beat which was reassuring as I had experienced bleeding beforehand.

8 weeks, as that was the latest I could get one before Christmas. It was clearer than my 12 (actually 13+4) week one but obviously didn't as much like a baby! Both were abdominal.

I’ve been advised by my ivf consultant to get a scan done in 18 days time at which point I will be 6+5. This is fairly typical post ivf!!

I’m booked in for an early scan tomorrow, I will be exactly 8 weeks. It’s my first pregnancy and I got a BFP at 5+2 days, my midwife appt isn’t until 9 weeks so it was just too long to wait.

I would have booked for earlier but I heard at & weeks there should be a good amount to see and hear.

I’m full of nervous excitement about tomorrow. Just hope with every fibre of my being that everything is as it should be and progressing well.

I had a mmc picked up at 11w scan, it was horrible to know that my body hadn't noticed anything was wrong. It's made me super anxious this time around. Ive just had a scan at 6w and all is well. I know I'll be having another at 9w ( mmc stopped growing at 8w3d) and then the dating at 11w. Early scans might not be for everybody, but they are the only thing keeping me sane.

Just wanted to update on my early scan.

I was nervous but it went really well! My bladder wasn’t full (despite downing water beforehand!) so we didn’t get to see much via abdominal scan, so tried transvaginally and saw lots including a little heartbeat flickering away which was just so lovely.

Sonographer also showed us lots of things, head, sack, position in womb etc and had no concerns.

She did date me at a few days behind what I thought but said this could change again at my 12 week scan.

I would recommend! It was really lovely to know that something is actually happening in there and everything looks to be progressing as it should be :)

Gemmajen I had exactly the same as you love, 5 months ago. Having an early scan will put my mind at ease this time as I’m so anxious. Only 5 weeks 3 days at the moment. No way I’m waiting until 12 weeks this time - I don’t care how much!🙁 all the best with you and your rainbow xx

I had an early scan at what I thought was 9+5 but was told I was 10+1 it was a really great experience for me! I loved every minute 😍 I'll add my pic so you can see. I could also see the little heart beating it was really magical!

I had one at 6+6 it was reassuring to see him, to know everything Is ok. I instantly bonded with him when I saw his little heart beat going. The 12 wk is better you can see more but I’m glad I had an early scan

I had one very early. Maybe 4 or 5 weeks? It was TV and I saw a blob, yolk and foetal pole. Then I had one at 6-7 weeks and saw the heartbeat. I've had one every 4 weeks since but I'm not in the UK so things work differently here.

This was mine at 9 weeks, I'd wait as long as you can! Going too early can cause extra anxiety if you don't see as much as you'd like to! I managed to talk myself out of having an early scan and I actually thought I was going for my 12 week scan but got told I was only 9 weeks! So very glad i didn't go for an early one or I would of panicked if they couldn't pick up a heart beat because i wasn't far along enough x
