I’m 29 weeks and really struggling to sleep with aching restless legs. I’ve read magnesium supplements can help ease the symptoms and just wondered if anyone has had any success with this (and what type/dosage) or any other methods? Fed up of being awake hours in the night!

I’ve suffered with restless legs for years and the things that always helped were raising my legs (usually lie on my back with legs up on the back of the sofa, so not ideal in pregnancy) or a hot water bottle. Magnesium really does help but I’m not sure what dosage you should take, you could ask your GP/midwife or a pharmacist even?

Am 27/28 weeks tomorrow and I've also had it really bad.. Hot water bottle and iron tablets I manage 3/4hrs sleep then few days later crash and have a good 12 hr sleep

I'm suffering already at 25 weeks. Been put on iron tablets. I've cut out caffiene, drinking alot more, keep feet up when possible, hot water bottle on them when sore, try to keep active. And eating bananas for potassium and salt and vinegar crisps seem to help (dad suffered with DVT and nurse advised this) seems to be working for me x

Hot water bottle and a pregnancy pillow that goes in between the legs helped a bit.

I know it sounds weird, but this worked for my husband: put a bar of soap in your bed. I don't know the science, but it worked for him. Plus it's cheap so you've got nothing to lose!

I found a nice bubbly bath and a pillow between my knees helped massively.
Now the butterflies have moved north and I feel all anxious and nervous! Joys of pregnancy!

HmmStill not glowing!

Magnesium definitely. You can get spray (or make it - really easy & cheaper) or supplement. I used the 'calm' brand during my last 2 pregnancies or else the floridix one - completely transformed my rl. Your GP or midwife are unlikely to have much knowledge about mineral deficiencies & their effects and the default will be probably no as a caution. I was very happy that there were no safety concerns (only benefits as most of us are deficient in magnesium) but always do your research!

Some tonic water before bed. The quinine helps enormously. A small can of tonic lived on my bedside cabinet...alongside Gaviscon!

I had this in all 3 of my pregnancies 🙄 I used to have a glass of tonic water before bed and that helped a lot.

GooodMythicalMorning · 25/01/2019 09:19

I was going to say bitter lemon for the quinine. it definitely helped me.

I suffer with restless legs sometimes when not pregnant but when I got them whilst pregnant I was prescribed iron tablets and it completely went away!
