Anyone missed out on the Nuchal screening test ? They've lost my bloods !

I had my dating scan last week and was measuring 13+3. I opted to have the Nuchal screening test (which I'm sure you know needs to be done before 13+6).
I'm now 14+2 and have had a call from a midwife today to let me know that someone lost/delayed my blood reaching the lab and now it's too late to have the test !!
She said they can do a different test if I go along and have more blood taken. Apparently it's not as accurate. I was a bit confused and just said ok, but since then I've found out this other test only looks for downs and not any of the other syndrome's that could be detected by the earlier one!

Some of the girls in my antenatal group have said they would be furious and push for them to cover NIPT testing ? Which is normally something you pay for privately.

My OH is absolutely fuming and wants me to complain and see about getting the
original testing done anyway (doesn't seem to understand that it's too late to do it now 🙈)

What would you do ? I'm not really sure ! I didn't feel really concerned until my OH starting ranting about how something could be wrong and we wouldn't find out til the birth . I know some people opt to not have the test at all but I'd rather be prepared if there's an issue

I didn't have it with my first as baby wouldn't cooperate and stayed in a position where they couldn't measure the nuchal fold. I had the less accurate blood test, which came back with something like a 1 in 20000 chance. I was happy enough with that. Maybe if it had come back with a higher chance, I'd have looked at further tests.

They'll still be checking for the other syndromes at the 20 week scan, by the looks of it:

Thank you ! I found that information after I posted . The thing I was concerned about was that it only tested for downs so at least the other syndrome's would be (hopefully) picked up at the 20 week scan if there was anything

I’d be pretty pissed off and would be pushing for them to provide the NIPT test on that basis.

I would still go ahead and have the quad test which tests for Downs. Edwards and Patty syndromes-they will look for at the 20 week scan. But yes I would complain about them loosing your bloods, as it may help them review their fail safe methods so that this doesn't happen again. Was it the lab or the clinic that lost them?

Patau not patty

ReginaPhalange89 · 23/01/2019 22:24

@cushioncovers I'm not sure what happened tbh, they turned up eventually today but it was too late to use the blood by then apparently, so not sure what the delay was !
I have an appointment for Monday to have the next blood taken for the quad test

I didn’t have it done with my first as I didn’t know I was pregnant until after that time.

It’s really unfortunate and I’d be annoyed tbh.
