Can a 12 week scan confirm gender?

I had my 12 week scan and I mentioned to lady about the “nub theory” she said shall I try and see what you are having.. I said yes okay. She said umbilical cord was in the way but if she was to say she thinks I’m having a boy(couldn’t promise) but said that’s what I’m going with?! How accurate can this actually be?

hey,

well here is the link i looked at yesterday as yesterday was the first time I had heard of the nub theory, the scans with explanation is probably all you need to know hopefully, to help with this question.

I had 4 11 week scans that correctly identified sex, although they didn't say definitely at that point

I wouldn’t start buying blue clothes!

An experienced radiographer could probably hazard a decent guess but I’d be surprised if anyone would guarantee it at that stage.

Nub theory on my 12 week scan indicated girl and we are indeed having a girl.

I saw 3 parallel lines between my baby's legs at 12 week scan which means girl and sonographer confirmed at my 20 week scan. Didn't know about nub theory at the time.
