Morning Sickness

I’ve just found out that I’m pregnant with my third.

In both previous pregnancies I had bad morning sickness. Not hyperemesis but pretty horrendous all the same. Constant all day nausea and vomiting multiple times a day.

With the first, a very elderly doctor gave me medication but then told me I should only take it I’d really needed. He scared me. I didn’t take it.

With the second, I didn’t even ask.

I am literally just four weeks and the sickness was my first clue that I was pregnant. So, what are you experiences? Has any body had medication for morning sickness and did it help?

In the past I’ve tried all the suggested non medical remedies and nothing helped. I know it will pass but it feel for DD and DS knowing how bad it previously got.

Metoclopramide and ondansetron are both perfectly safe during pregnancy. I've been prescribed both. Metoclopramide should help with nausea and if you're actually vomiting ondansetron is great because it comes in wafer form so there's no risk of throwing it back up. Gives it a chance to start working

That’s great, thank you.
I’ve booked a GP appointment in the hope that tackling it head on will help.

I had HG in both pg and took all the drugs! My children are both fine.

My own GP is married to a MW and very sympathetic and knowledgable about Pregnancy Sickness. One of the other GPs in the practice wouldn’t prescribe anything, as he was old enough to remember Thalidomide. One of the women GPs sailed through her pregnancies and didn’t see what the fuss is all about.

I found different drugs had different levels of effectiveness, and Avomine actually made me worse! GPs like cyclizine because it’s cheap! It helped a bit in my first pg but not the second.

Anyway, Pregnancy Sickness Support should be helpful and interesting reading and provide some reassurance.

Thank you Runbikeski, it’s all coming back to me already 🤢
I think the midwives were really dismissive previously. It’s really helpful to hear what people have taken and how effective it was.

I was put on cyclizine but it made me so drowsy i stopped taking it, I'm now 27+1 and the sickness has gone from 3-4 times a day to once maybe twice a week.

Fingers crossed it gets better for you,x
