Just that really.

Who is the oldest person you know who gave birth to a healthy baby .

Yes I obviously have a reason to ask and no I dont want to share save to say I had a terrible pg mid 40s and have no baby to show for it.

Thanks ....give me some hope? Ridiculous as it seems.

My Mum she thought she was going through the menopause at 42 as her periods had stopped etc, went to the hospital for some bloods etc, found out she was pregnant my sister was born on my 20th birthday. So I now have a 20 year age gap and a birthday buddy, we shared our 1st & 21st birthday together lol, she then went on to have my little brother at 45, we have a 22 year gap Shockand he was born 3 weeks before my DD

My mum worked with someone who thought she was going through the menopause, and turned out to be pregnant. I can't remember her exact age, but it was definitely early 50s (I think 51/52). This would have been the late 70s so technically IVF was available, but apparently her colleague was very surprised and by the time they realised she was pregnant (ie not menopause) she was about 4/5 months gone.

Buddytheelf85 · 20/01/2019 11:31

I wouldn’t say I know her but my boss’ wife was 45 when she had their third child. Lovely healthy little boy.

JamAtkins · 20/01/2019 11:36

51 - a surprise baby who must be about 40 now. She lived on my street when we were little and had 4 siblings who were all 20+ years older than her.

LuluJakey1 · 20/01/2019 11:41

I recently found a great-great grandma in my family tree who re-married at 48 to a man 15 years younger and had a baby at 49/50.

RJnomore1 · 20/01/2019 11:46

I know several people who were 47/48. The lovely woman I sit next to at work had twins at 43.

jophie80 · 20/01/2019 11:54

My step-mother had my sister at 42 naturally. There is no such thing as a cliff-edge in fertility. That is a plain lie. The fact is every woman is different and your fertility is just that, unique to you. Women in general decline in fertility after 35 but it is slow and gradual, not a sharp cliff drop. Anyone else hear of that doctor in Greece, Athens, who has reversed the menopause and a woman got pregnant.

My sister had a baby, conceived first month of trying, trouble free pg and birth, healthy baby, at 45.

OP, sorry you had a rough and sad time Flowers

The success stories, just like the ‘doom’ stories (‘terrible issues the minute you hit 35’) are individual to each person.

There wasn’t one person under 40 in my NCT group, but then they were the ones who had progressed successful pregnancies.

Megan2018 · 20/01/2019 12:04

Personally- 42, my mums best friend.she had 2 at 39 and 42 but sadly also multiple miscarriages to get there.

Also my great grandmother was the middle child of 18 children (and had 13 herself), she had the youngest in her late 40’s, off top of my head it was somewhere between 45 and 46. She basically had a pregnancy every 12-18 months since marriage. There may have been unsuccessful pregnancies too obviously. Not all the children made it to adulthood though as was common then.

I’m 6weeks pg with first at 40, almost 41. Shitting it tbh!

mamahanji · 20/01/2019 12:04

My grandad was the youngest of 8 and there's a 14 year gap between him and the next youngest.

Surprise menopause baby.

His mum was 55 when she had him and they had to move because of the shame. Baring in mind this was 90 years ago...

Thanks for you op

Phoebesgift · 20/01/2019 12:22

My grandma had her 3rd son aged 46 in the very early 1960s. He's my dad's half brother and the result of an elicit affair with a neighbour so definitely not planned!

ASqueakingInTheShrubbery · 20/01/2019 12:38

Lady from baby group had her third at 46. Lovely surprise. Her older ones were something like 14 and 16 at the time.

BigGreenOlives · 20/01/2019 12:40

46 no assistance

joangray38 · 20/01/2019 12:43

My great aunt had a baby at 49, she thought she was going through the menopause.

Blibbyblobby · 20/01/2019 12:46

My friend had her first at 47. The baby was unplanned and unexpected but very much welcomed

DianaBlythe · 20/01/2019 12:47

42 accidental unplanned pregnancy. Home birth 10 days before term. Gestational diabetes, baby was 9lb13 and has now gone off to university.

43 IVF twins with donor eggs 9 years ago.

SquirrelsGold · 20/01/2019 12:49

Lady I knew was 50 when she conceived, no ivf etc. Baby healthy and happy!

SimplyPut · 20/01/2019 12:55

Lovely friend had a miscarriage at 9weeks aged 42, she fell pregnant again resulting in a still birth at 30weeks age 44 and thought that was it for her.

She announced she was expecting on her 48th birthday and now has a beautiful two year old and menopausal at 50!

RebeccaWrongDaily · 20/01/2019 12:57

when i was having DC1 another woman I worked with was also pregnant, she was 49 turning 50 when the baby was a matter of weeks old. Had no treatment, it was a surprise.

AmeliaFolch · 20/01/2019 13:23

My daughter works with someone who had a surprise baby at 46. Her little boy is now a healthy happy toddler. I was always told that my grandfather was born when his mother was 50 but having traced the family tree I found out she was 7 years younger than we had thought and had him at 43. She then had a little girl at 45. One of my grandfather’s nieces was in his class at school and he had two nephews who were older than him.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 20/01/2019 13:30

56!!! She thought she had cancer. It was a healthy boy. I don't know if she was on HRT. I knew her DH but not her.

howhowhow · 20/01/2019 13:45

My mum was 42. First and only baby. I'm the same age now and think I would prob conceive easily.

EdWinchester · 20/01/2019 13:47

I know 3 that were 40 - all OK.

brick15 · 20/01/2019 13:49

A friend had healthy twins at 46
